Movie Reviews of Full Metal Jacket

Movie Review: Great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd seen this at the movies. I liked it, but, at the time, not as much as "Platoon". Remember? There were several Viet Nam movies close together, plus the TV series "Tour of Duty". After having aged some, I like "Full Metal Jacket" at least as good, but it's different. I ALWAYS liked the first part - BASIC TRAINING. Now I like the second part - THE BATTLE OF HUE - even more than before. This is a great movie, that explores the personalities and relationships of the different Marines more than some other movies. I also like that the fighting is in a developed area (Hue), because a lot of the fighting wasn't in the jungles, and often that's forgotten. This is on par with "Platoon" (but different) and way better than "Hamburger Hill" which was lame.

Movie Review: One of the greatest war movies of all time!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although this film has a bit of independent movie flavor, it still ranks as one of the best. Showing both the humorous and distasteful side of the Vietnam conflict I highly recommend it for those who enjoy dramatic and suspenseful themes. It is an altogether dark film, with flashes of hope here and there, and ends with the message that the soldier can be many things yet at the end of the day just wants to be alive. This is not a movie for young people, as it contains scenes of very graphic violence, but this is the realism of war that makes it great. It well captures the individual personalities that represent the men who fought in this conflict.

Movie Review: A True Masterpiece
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a true masterpiece, a work of art, and the best war movie I have ever seen. It's not a "Hollywood" war film with a happy ending. It actually shows the reality of war, and more importantly, conveys the message that war is hell. Not to say that there aren't some good combat scenes, because there were. But the point of the movie was to show the true impact of war. And they did that so well, in part of the excellent acting by Vincent D'Onofrio, and in part of the script in general. Almost anyone who can handle the very emotional, disturbing content of this movie should definitely watch this.

Movie Review: Kubrick's War
Summary: 5 Stars

Kubrick brings in a legendary Vietnam War film in his own special way. In two parts he highlights two victims and their revenge against the warriors. In the first half, a chubby Marine recruit endures horrific mental and verbal abuse in basic training until he collapses in violence. In the second half, a young female Vietnamese woman is used by American Maries as a sex object until she also emerges as a violent opponent. In both stories, the hapless victims become avengers and find strength bearing a Full Metal Jacket. A stunning often underrated film.

Movie Review: Gungo Ho Warrie
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent war movie that doesn't seem to pull any punches. I particularly liked the first part, when Joker and his friends are being trained at Parris Island. Very realistic. When I was in recruit training in the Australian Army, we heard stories about "Blanket Bashings" as protrayed in this movie. I loved the scene with Vietnamese Hooker. "You handsome man, I love you long time". The exterior scenes set in Vietnam, seemed very realistic, considering this part of the movie was shot in Spain!! Excellent Movie - go out and buy it
