Movie Reviews of Full Metal JacketMovie Review: stanley kubrick at his best Summary: 5 Stars
this movie is absolutely unbelievable. everything about it is good. it is as if the camera men went to a real boot camp and filmed this. it is so real. my uncle was in the marine corps and he said this movie is a vivid picture of what he went through before going to vietnam. if that isn't enough proof to show how good the movie is i don't know what is. all the elements of war are in this film. i take my hat of to the boot camp sergeant. was he a real sergeant, because it sure looked like it. full metal jacket, shows the downside of war, and the upsides of war, although there aren't that many. private joker, gomer pyle, private snowball, all these names are the people youu will get to know in this movie. it is a depiction in what the boot camps are like in this time. i give it a high five!
Movie Review: Outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen a lot of comments from people trying to say that there are movies superior to this one. As a vetern of this war, I can say with some authority that this one very accurate film, well acted and staged. I never thought that I'd enjoy watching a film on this topic. But I find I never tire of seening this film This is not to say that there aren't other films of this calibre, ie. Saving Private Ryan, Hamburger Hill, Pork Chop Hill, All Quiet on the Western Front, Sahara, etc.,etc.,etc. Quite simply these are all great films and trying to say one is greater then the other is an exercise in futility. We all have favorite films, but we need to be able to recognise when more then one film excels
Movie Review: This and Apocalypse Now--best war films known to man Summary: 5 Stars
Probably Kubrick's most underrated film and probably met with the most indifference, and I can't understand why. I can't understand why it wasn't on AFI's top 100 (same with Barry Lyndon and The Shining). I can't understand why Lee Ermey didn't nab an Oscar, and the movie didn't win best picture or at least best screenplay. This world is just so unfair. On the outside it first appears to be one of the most cynical, hard-hearted, unsentimental movies ever made. But look closer: the subtext in this movie is so gutwrenching and emotional, it's like the film is crying INSIDE. Just look at Private Pyle's murder/suicide scene--so tragic, so honest! It blows me away.
Movie Review: The greatest war move ever. Summary: 5 Stars
I feel the much-maligned second half of this movie is equal to the first half. Not only is the squad action (when Joker and the rest go after the sniper) told in a compelling manner but is also shown with a clarity that belies the complexity of staging a scene like this. The film is also unique in portraying the elation of survival that every soldier feels after having come through another conflict alive. Some saw the singing of the Mickey Mouse theme as a snide comment on the callousness of American troops in Vietnam. I think it was meant portray that feeling of joy that one has lived to see another day.
Movie Review: Reality Check Summary: 5 Stars
Forget "Eyes Wide Shut" - "Full Metal Jacket" is the movie I want to remember Stanley Kubrick by. It's been several years since I've watched this film - but I'll never forget it. The boot camp scenes are the best and the actor who portrays the drill sargeant is great - your worst nightmare. Kubrick lets those of us who've never been in the military - much less fighting in a war - have a small taste of what it must be like. This film is not as epic as "Apocalypse Now" or as poetic as "Platoon" - both great movies. "FMJ" just seems like the real thing.
