Movie Reviews of Frisky Dingo - Season 1Movie Review: Absolutely Hilarious, and Violent Summary: 4 Stars
Historically, I have always liked "GROWN-UP" cartoons. As a kid, I loved BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD, I liked (and still do) THE SIMPSONS, FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD are brilliant and *SHOCKER* I hate SOUTHPARK, go figure. But FRISKY DINGO is so funny because the writing is hilarious and their timing is perfect. Watching it reminded me of SPACE GHOST or AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE, except more violent, which is what sucks you in.
The first episode, I couldn't get away, but at the same time it wasn't the best episode. It kept you in there though. After that, the series just takes off and gets more and more hilarious.
A brief overview would be the show is about a spoiled, rich, womanizing superhero and a British, hot tempered, fatherly supervillian. It's great.
I suggest this to anyone into somewhat VIOLENT, HILARIOUS, and ADULT THEMED cartoons.
Movie Review: Boosh! Summary: 4 Stars
My favorite of the new series on Adult Swim (2nd Metalocalypse, 3rd The Venture Bros., though they took a while to become as good as the first season of Frisky Dingo). A pretty fast paced animated comedy w/what some call super heroes/villains , but I would call super tools. Everyone is out for themselves and is self-absorbed. Ultimately their actions never serve themselves, but do serve to amuse the viewers. The one liners and character embarrassment come at you quickly. It's not for everyone, but neither is the mainstream pablum that passes for entertainment. If you've ever seen any of the other Adult Swim series you'll know nothing is sacred, and this is no different. It's not for the easily offended, but for those aren't... you'll watch this more than once & you'll want to show it to your friends.
Movie Review: Some extras wouldn't have gone astray Summary: 4 Stars
The show itself gets five stars for being one of the funniest and most original and bizarre shows I've ever seen, but you can read any of the myriad reviews already posted on this DVD BEFORE it was actually released as testament to that. (Surely Amazon has some kind of policy in place preventing reviews being posted before the item is even out?!)
But I digress... this DVD is a must-have for the fans but a little disappointing in that there are no DVD extras. As an inlay we get a replica of the 'Welcome to you're "DOOM"' postcard Killface sends out on the show, which is very cool, but it would be awesome to have, say, a filmclip from Ta'quil or something.
But other than that, I am very pleased to have this as a part of my DVD collection.
Movie Review: Solid, but lacking extras Summary: 4 Stars
I find that since tastes vary from person to person, and that since this DVD is clearly aimed for Frisky Dingo fans, I'm going to review this for Frisky Dingo fans.
First of all, it is what is is. It's a DVD compilation of the entire first season. If that's what you want, that's what you're going to get.
This isn't getting five stars aside from the 'Welcome to You're "Doom"' postcard, there are no extra paper material nor extra DVD material. That means, no commentary or anything of that sort. Even the DVD playing menu is bland and actually a bit cumbersome to navigate.
Pros:
Frisky Dingo on DVD
Cons:
That's all you're getting
Movie Review: Great show, but no extras on this disc Summary: 4 Stars
While I fully agree with all of the other reviewers here who reviewed the series - rather than the actual DVD - I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of any video extras. There are 11 episodes on the disc and nothing more. The 'Welcome to You're "Doom"' postcard (a funny in-joke) was interesting, but more insight into the origins of the show and its making would have been more appreciated. Hopefully we'll get more value in future Adult Swim DVD releases (but please, no more "commentaries" that have nothing to do with the show).
