Movie Reviews of Freaky Friday

Movie Review: Coooool! It's a guy movie, too...
Summary: 5 Stars

My parents actually saw this film before I did. Seeing as how we never go to the movies, pay-per-view has become a luxury. When they saw this, they were psyched! I was skeptical, of course. The ole' switcheroo? Again? How many "body-swapping" movies are they gonna make, anyway? For quite some time, I fought my way out of not seeing this film...BIG MISTAKE!!! I was stunned at actually how original this film was! Disney has, of late, run out of original films. I've become quite bored with it, really. But this film was tight! It was nothing like the original film. Not even a real re-make, I would say. There were so many surprises, it exhausted me, but I watched again a few hours later. The climax is cool, probably the best part of the movie. That's the way it should be. I also enjoyed the depth brought to the Chinese characters who initiate the switching spell. They're not just walk-ons. Now, enough of this blabbering. I could write about this film all day, but I'm gonna get down to business.

PLOT: A widowed businesswoman and her distant punk/rocker daughter switch places after a Chinese spell is placed on them in the middle of a restaurant. In order to return to their own bodies, they must truly learn selfless love, and how to be a rock star (you'll understand when you see it).

PROS: Funny, smart, romantic, musically oriented, great actors (Jamie Curtis is hilarious)

CONS: There are cons?

Movie Review: surprisingly 5 Stars

The acting is excellent. The story is relevant and touching. The music is great. Each scene and each conversation in the film hang together to make a cohesive whole that flows seamlessly. I must admit that despite the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis is starring in this movie, I was definitely not expecting to love it.

I remember the first version of this movie in the mid 1970s with Barbara Harris (I had to look up who played the mom's role), and Jodie Foster (whom I clearly remember). I liked it O.K. at the time. However, I have not once thought about it nostalgically or wanted to see it again.

This time around is very different. Jamie Lee Curtis (Mom) and Lindsay Lohan (Daughter) are extremely convincing after they are switched into each other's bodies. I was definitely able to "suspend disbelief" and buy into their dilemma. They make the mother-daughter love and hate and tension and stress convincing and transforming for the viewers.

Mark Harmon (step-father to be) and the younger brother are clearly necessary - and interesting - assets, too. The "ick" factor that the Daughter in Mom's body experiences when she thinks about marrying Harmon is priceless - especially for those of us who have always known that he is hot!

This is definitely a great family movie. It is one that the ENTIRE family is likely to adore, and it is also just one more reason to adore Jamie Lee Curtis!!

Movie Review: One of the best of summer:
Summary: 5 Stars

Disney released 3 gems this summer:

1. Finding Nemo,
2. Pirates of the Carribean,
and 3. Freak Friday

This is a simply hilarious movie. It is so good for 3 reasons:
1. Jamie Lee Curtis - She does such an amazing job when she's playing Hannah trapped in her mothers body I believe its her, and man is it hilarous!!!

2. Lindsay Lohan - I had seen Lindsay Lohan in a couple movies, a remake of 'Parent Trap' and 'Get a Clue', a Disney channel movie. And though she was good, she'd yet to impress me. But she is an equal match to Jamie Lee Curtis's physical comedy and zany antics here. Where Lindsay play the mom trapped in her daughters body she is absolutely fantastic and hilarious.

3. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis play off eachother wonderfully well as mother and daughter. They have a very natural chemistry. And there are some great moments, to many to count really because this movie altogther is just hilarious. It doesn't feel contrived it feels natural and well paced. Its the perfect movie for mothers and their daughter(s). I saw it with my mom and we loved it. We so many paralells between us. Esp. the seen where Hannah's mother tries to wake her up. hehe :D

So my advice is, even if you're not sure this looks good, give it a chance. Its absolutely hilarious. Even if you're a boy. If you have a sister I'm sure you can relate to this too. :D

God Bless ~Amy

Movie Review: Hard Rockin' Remake of Freaky Friday
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I attended the sneak peak premiere for Freaky Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan and Mark Harmon.

Lohan and Curtis play off each other extremely well, especially when the "reverse" occurs. The movie works well in the fact that Lohan's character represents a normal, repressed teenage girl and the kids around her at school could be a snapshot from any era, just that they are definitely based in 2003. Her band Pink Slip sounds like a cross between The Donnas (who are on the movie soundtrack) and Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo) in the Josie and the Pussycats movie.

Curtis' character could be just about any professional adult with PDA's, cell phones and pagers all going off at one time and forgetting the most important thing in her life, family.

It was great to see a film with teenagers rocking out instead of falling into the force fed urban trends of rap and basketball. I really hope Disney TV itself starts taking this approach and gets away from the rap for the kids during their video shows.

Freaky Friday is an excellent movie for the entire family kids through adults (no swearing) with a lot of funny sight gags and as well as physical humor. Outside of a brief shot of Jamie Lee in a thong, there is nothing in this movie that would be considered offensive, although the movie is rated PG.

Movie Review: "When the fortune come true..."
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say that for the most part Lindsay Lohan is smart...for she picks fun films that the whole family can enjoy, and within them she shows that she has acting chops to one day be a huge star (and by huge I mean award worthy, for she's already a HUGE star). 'Freaky Friday' is no exception (although Jamie Lee Curtis does steal the show here). If your familiar with the original then you know the plot lines, mother and daughter don't get along, ever, and with a magic spell they switch bodies and are forced to live in each others shoes. Each one feels the others life is so much easier than theirs but what they are soon to find out is that they really underestimate the other. Whats so charming about this film is that nothing seems forced, the comedy the acting is all genuine. When they switch theres no sign of their previous charactor, for Jamie Lee Curtis 'becomes' Lindsay Lohan and visa versa. Put them in situations strange to them and hilarity ensues. Great acting on all fronts, even by supporting charactors played by Chad Michael Murray & Mark Harmon who play the boy Anna (Lohan) is in love with and the man Tess (Curtis) is engaged to. This is a great mother daughter film, but even moreso, a great family film that everyone can enjoy.
