Movie Review: Fluid Precision
Summary: 3 Stars
Of all my tribal and traditional DVDs, this is the one that makes it into my rotation least frequently. I do appreciate the importance of drilling moves slowly as well as quickly, but I really find most of the isolation section excruciatingly slow. The ladies' instructions are fairly clear, although there are a number of instructors with superior instruction for those who find themselves needing a lot of verbal or visual explanation (e.g., Ashara -- Modern Tribal Bellydance, Rachel Brice, Michelle Joyce, Suhaila -- Bellydance for Beginners with Suhaila: Fitness Fusion - 4 Volume Gift Set (Buns, Jazz, Pilates, Yoga), etc.). The combos are definitely created with beginners in mind, albeit not absolute beginners. They're not super challenging, but some involve level changes and undulations that require a little bit of practice. I would say the warmup is my favorite section of this DVD. It's a little light on safety instruction for my taste, but it is fairly thorough and great for those days when I do not have time to go all the way through Ariellah's Contemporary Bellydance and Yoga Conditioning with Ariellah. The ultimate problem with Fluid Precision is that the bellydance instructional video is becoming a crowded field. While the instructors are lovely and would probably be fun to take classes from, I really didn't see anything here to elevate it to the level of "must have."
