Movie Reviews of Flawless

Movie Review: "Flawless" is nearly so.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a rather quiet "heist" film, but engaging and interesting all the same.

There are no great chases, explosions, or fistfights in the yarn, but it's not boring either. It is a bit slow at times, but it builds to a very satisfying ending. This film is as much about sexism in the workplace as it is a caper film. This film is as much about the respect, or lack thereof, given to people based upon their job position and/or length of service to a company, as it is a crime story. This film is as much a moral tale as it is about an immoral act, stealing.

The cast is first-rate with Demi Moore, picture perfect as an early 1960's Londoner trapped in a position in which she is overqualified and passed over for positions in which she is qualified. She is sexy as ever, but much more understated here. Michael Caine is, as usual, a total class act and very believable as the long-suffering janitor who spies a chance to get what he thinks he deserves.

Now, the plot is not very complicated, but it does have its twists and turns, as any good heist film will have. It's not as smart as it thinks it is, but it isn't dumb either. This is a nice divergence from the more loud heist films we are used to getting from Hollywood. One finds him or herself saying things like, "They don't make films like that anymore" when done viewing this movie.

Flawless? No. Entertaining? A definite yes!

Review from [...]

Laura Quinn, living in 1960s London, had to work harder than any man to get her prestigious job at the world's most famous diamond corporation, simply because she was a woman. When Mr. Hobbs, the building's janitor, gives her the information that the company is planning on firing Laura simply for being a smart woman, Laura is enraged.

It is because of her anger and shock that she agrees to help Mr. Hobbs steal a few diamonds from the vault. The amount will be so small that the company won't even notice, but it'll turn a tidy profit for the two of them.

Imagine Laura's surprise when, the morning after the robbery was supposed to take place, the vault is completely empty! Thousands, if not millions of dollars worth of diamonds were taken, and, as you can imagine, the corporation's insurance company is less than willing to pay for them.

As a full-on investigation takes place, Laura is forced to solve the mystery by herself. She won't turn herself or Mr. Hobbs in, and Mr. Hobbs won't tell her anything. Laura must use her own wits to discover how and why the seemingly impossible robbery took place.

I absolutely LOVED Flawless! The plot is clever and unique, with twists that keep the watcher on the edge of his/her seat. I was surprised this movie didn't get more marketing and attention; it was fabulous.

Movie Review: first-class caper film
Summary: 4 Stars

Set in London in 1960, the aptly named "Flawless" features Demi Moore as Laura Quinn, the first woman to become senior negotiator at Lon Di, the world's premier diamond firm. However, Quinn has pretty much hit the glass ceiling career-wise with the company, and when she discovers that she is about to be let go from the firm, she agrees to join forces with the night janitor (Michael Caine) in his plan to rob the vault of a thermos-full of uncut diamonds.

"Flawless" is a good old-fashioned caper tale done with an abundance of wit, intelligence and style and just enough twists and turns in the plot to keep the audience on its toes throughout. Moore and Caine make a perfect team as the duo plotting the heist, while director Michael Radford generates enough suspense for a dozen average thrillers. The script by Edward Anderson even manages to squeeze in some points about early '60's feminism and South African apartheid along the way.

Definitely worth seeing.

Movie Review: Nearly Flawless Sleeper of a Movie!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed the acting very much in this movie. Both Michael Caine and Demi Moore do nice jobs in their performances. The story itself was wonderful as well... Not too slow! I enjoyed how this drama unfolds leaving one curious as to how this heist was going to be pulled off and what an amazing heist it was!

The only flaws in this movie were as follows:

1) The bad make-up job given to Demi Moore to make her look like an elderly woman at the start and finish of the movie.

2) Demi plays a character whom is as cool as a cucumber throughout out most of the movie, then when the heist happens she loses her poise quite a bit and could have completely blown her cover! Sort of thought it was odd for such a poised character to become so rattled if you will.

3) The ending seemed undramatic to. I thought there would be a bit more to it.

Movie Review: Not Flawless but a Good Suspense Drama
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a well-done suspense drama, but the pace is too slow for it to be considered a "thriller". As a long-time Michael Caine fan, I enjoyed his performance, and I was pleasantly surprised at Demi Moore's believable performance as the dauntless aspirant to the upper management ranks of her company only to be thwarted by the "old boy" network (British style).

Is this a FLAWLESS suspenseful inside theft movie? No, but it's far from the worst, in my opinion. I enjoyed it because it withheld the uncovering of the final plot twists to the very end, although they were presented in a "too hurried" fashion and, therefore, lost some of their effect.

Certainly the movie has some flaws, but I liked it. I rate it 3.5 stars.
