Movie Reviews of FlashpointMovie Review: Cynicism and Paranoia, Corruption and Hate contained Summary: 5 Stars
I have waited years for this release to be laser scribed onto DVD--it is here! A very good movie.
I have to say the Inspector Carson (belonging to an unknown federal agency), character played by Kurtwood Smith is good if not great acting.
He epitomizes the sort of corrupt fellow we all love to hate.
His lines in the movie (particularly when he and Border Patrol Agent Bobby Logan, Kris Kristofferson) discuss 'politics' during a stakeout are sheer unadulterated cynicism at the nuttiest best. The conspiracy flakes have probably adopted these lines as their mantra....
Great bit part acting by Rip Torn, Roberts Blossom (as the desert rat), Tess Harper and the young and sultry Jean Smart.
Kris Kristofferson does a great job with his lines and acting capacity and Treat Williams does ok as well.
Anyone who has been in law enforcement--or any other supervisory capacity for that matter--has seen the idiocy and vacuum headedness of the supervisor depicted in the movie of the Border Patrol: Totally inept.
The soundtrack by Tangerine Dream is one of my all time favorites because it fits the movie seamlessly and draws you into the scenes. A must see movie.
Movie Review: Excellent take on the aftermath of JFK assasination Summary: 5 Stars
As a student of the murder of JFK for nearly 30 years now, I very much enjoyed this movie on VHS and look forward to the DVD release. Kristofferson's and Treat Williams' characters as the older, more cynical and younger, still idealistic Border Patrol agents who both still believe in justice, play off each other well. Kevin Conway portrays the typically inept functional beaureacrat boss who doesn't have a clue but who sucks up to the "powers that be" well. Rip Torn is great as the friend of Kristofferson's father, a former Texas Ranger and now county sheriff is reluctantly caught up in all; and the addition of Tess Harper and Jean Smart as not only semi-love interests but as conduits of information is a real nice touch. One character I liked a lot was the retired aeronautical engineer turned desert rat, Amarillo (Roberts Blossom), who runs afoul of the cold-hearted assasin feds sent to "fix" this new problem (the lead one played well by Kurtwood Smith) after he reports finding the jeep and body. This is an underrated movie in my view, up there with other (underrated) conspiracy movies such as Parallax View, Blowout and The Domino Principle.
Movie Review: An overlooked diamond - first rate Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this movie. How many really GOOD films combine some good action, mystery and suspense, conspiracy, grand themes that are compelling, well-written characters acted very well by good actors, great scenery, several really memorable lines of dialogue, and to boot, some sharp and wry humor? On top of all that, it's one of the better "buddy" flicks. There is one "coincidence" that's a little bit hard to swallow, but because the film is so darn good you're more than willing to go along with it. Kurtwood Smith, well before he played the dad on "That 70's Show", is a revelation here, as a menacing federal agent - and one stretch of his dialogue in the film is so well written and well acted as to be worthy of a best-supporting actor nomination. In fact, Smith's quasi-monologue alone is worth the price of the DVD, and well worth considering in this time of debate concerning the size and power of government over the governed. The protagonists are very likable and very believable, and the story as written is both bold, and unusual. Even most of the small part character actors in this are really good.
Movie Review: Flashpoint. (1984). Summary: 5 Stars
This movie, was produced by HBO in the early 80's & stars kris Kristofferson, Treat Williams as 2 modern day,U.S Border patrol agents & Rip Torn as the county sheriff. The performances are rock-solid as is the plot line. The story revolves around Kristofferson's character, who while on a routine patrol along the border, stumbles across a vehicle half buried in a remote, dried up riverbed. From that point, it takes off & is non-stop. It's full of suspense, raw emotion & intrigue & keeps you guessing & the ending is incredible. This is a must-see if you are into thrillers, suspense & just a really great movie. It's not your typical "made for t.v." flick either. You might say it's a modern day western with a twist. Enjoy. :)
Movie Review: The best film about the Kennedy assasination! Summary: 5 Stars
This was an early Treat Williams TV Movie...with Kris
Kristoffersen. They both brought vintage performances
and the clever story was anything but formula. The
theme song at the end of the movie is excellent as well.
Rip Torn does a very nice job and the bad guys were very
good at being very bad. It is really a must see for
those that believe JFK was not done in by Lee Harvey
Oswald.... alone.
