Movie Review: The Conquistador of the Useless
Summary: 5 Stars
"Fitzcarraldo" is, in my opinion, one of the greatest films of all time. A tribute to hope, dreams, and the human spirit. As does Fitzcarraldo pull a steamship over a mountain to secure a remote property of rubber trees, so did director Werner Herzog to film it (using no special effects). As a filmmaker, Herzog ascends into the realm of the supernatural. "Fitzcarraldo" is Werner Herzog's magnum opus and stands as a testament to how close filmmakers have made films as they should be.
The DVD picture and sound is superb, making the jungle setting lush and engrossing. Kinski, as always, delivers an outstanding performance. This is a beautiful film and a must watch for film lovers.
Movie Review: One of the greatest stories ever told

Herzog has taken on many grand ventures but none so dramatic as this one. The great German director was drawn to the history and myths of the Americas, using opera as the basis for this grand film. Herzog tells the tale of Fitzcarraldo, a real life character, who had the audacity to pull a steamship over a small mountain to prove he could ford two rivers. Kinski is wonderful as the "big dreamer" who is obsessed with bringing Carusso to the Peruvian hinterland at the turn of the century. Fitz puts together a crew that has all the trappings of the ill-fated Pequod, but somehow manages to pull this great adventure off.Movie Review: The supreme madness!

Provocative , intriguing , surrealist , irreverent and haunting film . Think just in this innovative idea . The magic realism will load the screen with arresting and awful images when you really discover the B plan of this special man .
Cannes 1982 as Best director and one of the supreme jewels of this clever german director .
Even I consider Aguirre the wrath of God his immortal masterpiece , I recognize this is a masterful work .
Watch it ; you will be astonished for a long long time .

Fitzcarraldo, a movie about an obsessed man made by an obsessed man, Werner Herzog.This creative process is observed in Les Blanks documentary "Burden of Dreams" a wonderful and vivid studywhich, in my opinion, must be viewed to fully appreciate "Fitzcarraldo" The main character in "Fitzcarraldo" is played by the eccentric german acting legend Klaus Kinski
With mouth-dropping imagery and tone This is a truly satisfying film "A film which only Werner Herzog could make"
Movie Review: amazing film - extraordinary film making and beauty

This is the most amazing film I have ever seen. I originally saw it in London when it was first released, and a London Times review said that the film "expanded the borders of film making". The film is about an obsession - bringing the opera to South American jungle. But when you consider Herzog and his obsession in making the film, it takes on added depth and dimension.Truly one of the world's great films, and my personal all time favourite film ever!! Watch it.
