Movie Reviews of Fist of the White LotusMovie Review: This is a good "bootleg" version and pretty good movie Summary: 4 Stars
The people who are complaining about the red sun releases would have been right about some of their other releases, but not this one. This one really does look good. So what if they allegedly took the picture from celestial releases? The image is crisp and has the original English dubbed where as the celestial dvd's do not. And honestly, Red Sun/PanMedia is one of the only companies that even provide "so many" oldschool kung fu movies in region 1 NTSC coding so...
By the way, this is worth getting if you like the cast. Pai Mei technically is not in this, it is his brother or something like that and he's actually revenging Pai Mei. This is more like a sequel to "Executioners of Shaolin" which I have not seen but does have the popular Pai Mei character.
Movie Review: WHIE LOTUS PREIST steals the show!!! Summary: 4 Stars
Watch this movie for THE WHITE LOTUS PRIEST PAI MEI. The White Lotus Preist is one of the coolest characters you'll ever see in any kung fu movie , period. Although I enjoyed this kung fu movie, I've seen Gordon Liu in better roles. The White Lotus Preist fights Gordon Liu several times and each time spares G.L.'s life. I was very angry, because at the end when Gordon Liu finally is able to beat the White Lotus Preist he kills him and doesn't spare his life.
Movie Review: This is a great movie. Summary: 4 Stars
This movies is really great it is kind of long and drawn out but it's really good. I think this movie was a seqel to the movie the Executioner" but iam not sure since both of the characters have the same name and the same overall concept. First in the executioner it starts off with a rebellion against the lotus clan, which is lead by at that time bymean
Movie Review: Tiger/Crane just not soft enough. Summary: 3 Stars
I think this movie, while quite good and very different, is a little overrated. A sequel/remake of "Executioners from Shaolin", Gordon Liu (always good) must train to take revenge after the destruction of the Shaolin temple. Trouble is that his foe, the white-eyebrow priest, Pai Mei (Lo Lieh, directing and reprising his famous role, and also always good) is practically invincible; having achieved a level of kung fu expertise beyond the mere physical. Gordon trains and trains but his style is ineffectual and must learn the "soft style" from the beautiful Kara Hui, whose husband was killed by Pai Mei. She makes him sew and take care of her newborn baby, an interesting contrast to the "crane style" of "Executioners".
This version from Red Sun is wonderfully restored by Celestial. The fight scenes are hit and miss, no pun intended. There are moments of excellence for sure, just...I can't quite put my finger on what bothered me about it, if anything. Maybe I just heard too many good things about it and it didn't live up to the hype. I'm not sure if I would recommend this to the "casual" fan or not. I have friends who loved "5 Deadly Venoms" and "The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" but didn't care for movies like "7 Grand Masters". If you like most Shaw Bros. films, you'll probably like this one too.
1980. aka: Clan of the White Lotus
Movie Review: Great film, horrid DVD. Summary: 1 Stars
If you're looking for bootleg DVDs with bootleg "quality," here you go. Red Sun or whatever their name is, is a bootleg company that steals the image quality from Hong Kong DVDs and sells it as their own. They then put out crappy bootlegs like this here and have their stooges post how great they are so you buy their releases. The dvds are poor, have audio and image issues, and fall apart in a year or so. If that sounds "Great," "superior," etc. please feel free to buy this release. If not, get the actual releases from Hong Kong for cheaper prices and see something great.
