Movie Reviews of Fist of LegendMovie Review: Definitely Worth Your Hard-Earned Money Summary: 5 Stars
Wow. A great film, and a great DVD. Definitely a must-have. I'm going to have to disagree with a lot of the other reviews and say that Yuen Woo-Ping's choice to include slow-motion scenes, etc. only add to the film. Jet Li's raw energy and athleticism, combined with his finesse and elegance, have always been his strong point. Add to that a ferociousness that most other martial artists on celluloid today lack, and you have a powerhouse fighter who is simply UNSTOPPABLE on the screen and in the box office. All of that still shows through in this film. The fight scenes are packed with blinding action and are definitely above par. The scripting and plot are well-done, along with an unusually successful portrayal of Chinese xenophobia (and Japanese aggressiveness). It's a shame they removed the original soundtrack--as cheesy and MIDIfied as it was, it still complemented the film better than the new soundtrack (far too percussive and heavy-heanded). Also, I'll never understand why everyone's dubbed voice is accent-free except for Jet Li's. With Jackie Chan at least it's his own voice...
Movie Review: Too Cool Summary: 5 Stars
I am a fan of the kung fu movie genre. I am guessing that if you are reading this, so are you (if not, why are you here? Shouldn't you be looking at My Best Friend's Wedding or something?) This movie has all that a healthy growing fan of the genre of butt-kicking would need: A great director, a great main couple of stars, and a mediocre story that involves lots of action. My personal favorite scenes in these types of movies are the one on one scenes, and there are two particularly moving ones that made me so happy I almost cried. Although I gave this movie five stars I do reconize that, like most movies of this sort, it doesn't have the best plot. So, if you are looking for only the best of the best martial arts films... Go get Crouching Tiger or another one of those meaningful ones. But, if you are one of those neat people who thrive on the vicarious living through people who have almost superman like abilities to kick some rear, and you are looking for a movie to boost your alter, or imagined, self... get this one.
Movie Review: DAH!!! You can't say that about BRUCE LEE!!!! BLASPHEMY!! Summary: 5 Stars
. . . . .but its true, this is an awesome movie. Where Chinese Connection had terrible dialogue, bad acting and great fight seens, this movie had pretty good acting, not bad dialogue and Awesome fight seens. I searched for Jet Li on a file sharing service and happened to download the first big fight seen of this movie. immediately bought Fist Of Legend to see the rest, and I am SO happy I did!!!! Fans of Bruce Lee (as I am) will appreciate this remake which stayed true to the spirit of Bruce's intentions for his movies. Specifically relating to Chinese Connection, Bruce wanted to expose the racism the Chinese endured during colonial Japan; but also, in ALL of Bruce's Movies, was his desire and intention to break the molds of strict sytles and isolationism behind the various Martial Arts. Bruce said, "It doesn't matter if it is Chinese, Japanese, Korean, if it helps you learn it". Jet Li Fans should love this movie for its simple storyline with fantastic fight seens. I loved this movie!!!!
Movie Review: Jet Li a Martial Arts God! Summary: 5 Stars
Jet Li stars in one of his best roles to date in this remake of the classic Bruce Lee film "Fists of Fury". The fights in this film are only matched by those in "The Matrix". The story in this film, set in the 1930's, has Jet Li as a young chinese man returning from back to his native land after hearing of his adopted father's death. Learning that the death was in fact a murder Jet Li must now defend the martial arts school from both a rival school and a ruthless Japanese General whomis trying to start a war. While this is one of the best martial arts films ever made it is also a very good drama. This film is best viewed in a dubbed format. No martail arts fan is going to want to miss the almost seven minute long fight scene at the end of the film. Warning this film does contain some scenes of strong martial arts violence. But if you let you kids see films "Mortal Kombat" then there should be no proble with this this film. Suggested viewing age is 13 and up.
Movie Review: Amazing Martial Arts Movie Summary: 5 Stars
A lot of people have complaints about the DVD version in thatthe dubbing took away lot of the important dialog. I, for one, havenot seen the VHS version but definately intend to. As far as picture and sound quality go, the DVD version was amazing. When i first saw the movie i was so blown away by the fighting sequences i didnt have time to pay attention to slight details as to whether his fist were closed or open because of the style he was fighting in, but you know what? WHO CARES! be astounded by the actual fights! The movie had a good plot, and the transition from scene to scene was smooth. It was'nt slow and didnt waste a lot of time on certain scenes like a lot of movies do. Every minute of this movie was very entertaining. Nearly every scene had a fight sequence which made the movie even better. All in all it was a very good movie, and even though there are slight differences between the VHS and DVD versions i recommend watching both because Fist of Legend is an amazing martial arts movie.
