Movie Reviews of FireproofMovie Review: An Amazingly Inspirational Movie Summary: 5 Stars
Last week, after a surprising, but welcomed stay home from work, my wife and I decided to rent "Fireproof", starring everyone's favorite, Mike from "Growing Pains" (Kirk Cameron). Ok so maybe I gave away my age with that one. "Fireproof", from the church that created the instant class "Facing the Giants", is a story about a failing marriage between Cameron's character, Caleb, and his wife, played by Erin Bethea.
The couple's struggles center around their communication issues with the underlying reasons being Caleb's obsession with his job as a firefighter combined with his selfish desires of internet pornography. After an explosive argument, Caleb's wife decides enough is enough and can no longer continue in the marriage. What follows is an amazing transformation in Caleb from faith in self to faith in God. This transformation is sparked by his dad's 40-day challenge to have Caleb increasingly show his love toward his wife despite her rejection. This theme in the movie clearly parallels our rejection of Christ's love toward us before we except him as our Savior.
"Fireproof" is an incredibly inspirational movie and has many messages at its core, but most obvious is that any marriage can be Saved; it just takes a little work and a lot of God. A marriage cannot be 50/50 as the world would have you to believe, but instead it is 100/100. Each spouse must give 100% of themselves to the other.
Mark 10:7-8 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one.

Movie Review: A movie about REAL life Summary: 5 Stars
Fireproof
This movie was about as "real life" as movies get! As one watches the steady disintegration of Caleb's marriage; the heated arguments with his wife, the growing hostility and the lack of respect they show one another, it is easy to relate to their situation. You see Caleb's fascination with pornography and how his wife is getting wrapped up in an emotional affair with one of her co-workers and you can totally relate to their pain. Just when all seems to be headed for certain disaster, in his desperation he agrees to try something his father suggests, the Love Dare. Your heart breaks for him when his efforts to show his love and remorse are spurned by his wife and her "friend" at work gets more of her attention than her husband. But God is at work behind the scenes and He alone gives Caleb the tenacity to keep working on the marriage when all seems a futile effort. Caleb comes face to face with his addiction to pornography and is willing to make his wife his first priority. That is the pivotal point in the healing of a broken relationship.
What a beautiful story of "beauty from ashes"! It gives hope to couples struggling with the issues so prevalent in marriages today. This is not a "cheesy chick flick". It's a real life movie that will quickly pull you into the emotion of a troubled marriage spiraling out of control. Add to that the intense scenes of Caleb's dangerous job as a firefighter, and you have a family friendly movie that speaks directly to where many people are at today!
Movie Review: Really Good...4.5 stars Summary: 5 Stars
This is a really good movie, I didn't expect it to be well done, considering I had heard that they had a very limited budget and many of the actors were actually valunteers from the church, but I was wrong, this was a well done movie. The directing and the acting was good. The storyline was excellent. But the best thing about it, is that it touches the soul, and makes one feel closer to God.
You don't have to be in a bad marriage or a bad relationshipship to enjoy this movie. Anyone can enjoy this movie, whether single, or in a good relationship or marriage. And I enjoyed it.
As an entertaining movie, it is good, there was humor, some really moving moments, and some really inspirational/uplifting moments. It is also suspenceful, the viewer is always interested as we wait to see if this couple will make it or not.
As a Christian spiritual movie, it is good, there were some really beautiful messages in this, that could apply to anyone whether they be single, in a bad relationship or not. I loved the line when the preacher in the end says that marriage is not a contract, but a covenant between two people and God. And I really admire Kirk Cameron who, I read, wouldn't kiss the actress, but only his wife.
In the end, this was a really good movie, that was moving, inspiring, and touching. The only reason I give it "4.5" stars instead of a full "5" is because I felt that it was a little slow in some parts, and the acting could have been better, especially on the part of the actress who played the wife. Otherwise, this is an excellent movie.
Movie Review: The message is OUTSTANDING Summary: 5 Stars
My husband and I watched this movie the other night. No, the acting is not Oscar material, but it's by no means unwatchable. Ironically that is what makes this movie believable and so touching. Real every day problems that our society's busy modern day couples face. The wife wants the husband's help around the house, the husband wants respect, and God is an afterthought (or not thought at all).
As far as movies go, I'm not easy to impress, but this is definitely one of my all-time faves now. Perhaps the God aspect came into my life just when I needed it. I'm a lifelong Christian but frankly, I have not made the time, not for church anyway. The movie is heavy with the Christianity, so if that talk puts you off, you may not like the movie, although I think even non-Christian couples could benefit from watching.
Kirk Cameron plays Caleb, a fireman who's marriage is on the brink of divorce. Caleb's Christian father asks Caleb to spend the next 40 days taking The Love Dare. The message is clear: marriage + selfishness = disaster, and what stood out to me most was a line Caleb's father said. Something to the affect of, "Sure, according to your standards you're a good person, but God doesn't hold you to your standards. He holds you to His."
And although I do my best not to cry during movies (stifle, stifle) I was a boohooing mess for about the last half of the movie. I could really relate. Even ole tough guy hubby had a couple tears. And some of the firehouse shenanigans are really funny. I now have The Love Dare app on my iphone, and we're buying the movie too.
Movie Review: DON'T LIKE THIS MOVIE? THEN, MAKE YOUR OWN! Summary: 5 Stars
A Baptist church in the middle of America's heartland - Albany, Georgia decides it would like to communicate a message of God's love with their town. They write a script about a dishonest used car dealer. They buy a professional video camera. They construct dollies and lighting equipment. They perform the various roles and do all the behind-the-scenes chores themselves. Production is even financed by donations.
The film is called "Flywheel". It does so well in Albany, that it starts getting booked at theaters around the state. It goes national on DVD.
The church members decide the "Flywheel" project was so rewarding, that they produce another film, "Facing The Giants". When it comes out on DVD, word of mouth propels it - and soon it becomes the "Susan Boyle" of Christian videos.
So, now Sherwood Baptist Church has released film #3, "Fireproof". Those who tire of Hollywood's anti-Christian values, anti-middle American values - will find this film refreshing.
Those who slam the film's production values - protest too much. You didn't hear them complain when the "Blair Witch Project" was released! It isn't the cinematic quality they hate (and the quality is much better than the film's budget would lead you to expect). They hate the MESSAGE. How dare Christians speak in public, share their faith - make movies!!
My suggestion to these Couch Critics is this: "You don't like the movies Sherwood Baptist Church makes? Then YOU do better. Gather a couple dozen of your whiney Couch Critic buddies - and make YOUR OWN movie!"
