Movie Reviews of Fire in the Sky

Movie Review: A "Tale" of Suspense and Drama
Summary: 4 Stars

I am tempted to give this movie five stars for one simple reason--the skill that the director has in making you actually feel the scenes on the screen. The first hour and a half of this movie is an exciting tale drawing you into the world of Travis Walton and his friends. The details are superb as you feel like you are one of the men who saw the abduction and then the person who experienced it. I felt my heart race as the abduction story unfolded--the scenes on the alien vessel being truly outstanding.

Unfortunately, for all of the movie's thrills and very in-depth drama, the last fifteen or so minutes is horribly dull and lackluster. While the details leading up to and during the abduction are exciting, the story afterwards falls off into nothingness. The movie becomes long and ends on a note that makes you feel as if the director was rushed on time--or, that the facts of this "true story" simply ran out.

In any case it is a great theatrical work. The actors and director deserve a commendation for the realism they injected into the movie. Should you rent this movie? If you want ninety minutes of intense detail and suspense, yes. If you expect the story to have any kind of conclusion, try somewhere else.

Movie Review: Creepily effective, you judge if it's true
Summary: 4 Stars

Based on the supposedly true account of alien abductee Travis Walton, Fire in the Sky is creepily effective in it's storytelling and presentation. D.B. Sweeney plays the logger who, along with his co-workers, witnesses bizarre lights hovering in the sky. Travis attempts to get a closer look, and is seemingly beamed aboard and never seen again until five days later. While the events in the film differ from Walton's own account, Fire in the Sky manages to get under your skin once Travis has a flashback of the events that transpired aboard the spaceship. The alien beings are surprisingly well designed, and the ordeal Travis goes through will make your skin crawl despite the film's PG-13 rating. It's not perfect, but the cast (including T2's Robert Patrick, Peter Berg, Craig Sheffer, and James Garner) makes it work. All in all, if you are one of the many people who zone out to the X-Files and UFO phenomina, give this a look.

Movie Review: interesting
Summary: 4 Stars

I listened to an interview on the radio with one of the real persons from this story. I had never heard about this ocurrance before and I was intrigued. I found the video for sale on Amazon, and purchased it. I watched it a day or two after I received it in the mail. It was interesting. I am not sure if I believe the whole story or not. They claim truth, and all evidence leads to the fact it is true. It's interesting. I was not able to find the movie anywhere else, I'm glad I was able to find it here.

Movie Review: Believable premise
Summary: 4 Stars

Having heard the real Travis talk about his abduction I was anxious to see the video interpretation of the experience. Expecting a low-budget "B" movie, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the movie took the premise seriously, focusing on the reactions of Travis' friends instead of lingering on outrageous special effects. I highly reccommend this film.

Movie Review: Great Story For Believers and Non-Believers
Summary: 4 Stars

Looks at the claimed abduction of Travis Walton. Shows how people react to claims of the UFO. Great human responses in the movie. It allows the viewer the ability to determine if they believe or not. Focuses on the impact of the incident more than the incident itself, allowing the viewer to almost visualize more than shown.
