Movie Reviews of Fire in the Sky

Movie Review: We are not alone....
Summary: 5 Stars

This 1993 movie was suggested to me by my Amazon friend, C. Christopher Blackshere. He was so right! This film has just become one of my all time favorites! If you like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Alien", then this is definitely for you. It has one twist though---it is based on a true story of an alien abduction that happened on November 5, 1975. A group of loggers headed by Mike (Robert Patrick), were working on a government contract clearing out part of the forest in the White Mountains (near Snowflake, Arizona). They had to finish the job within a short time, so they worked into the night. While returning to their small town, the 6 men saw a "fire in the sky". They thought it maybe a forest fire and realized that the road they were on was the only one in or out of the forest. Mike pulled the truck over to get a better look. Travis (D.B. Sweeney), got out of the truck and ran to the "fire" despite the other guys trying to persuade him to stay in the truck. It turned out to be this incredibly large UFO. Travis was looking at it while the other guys are just screaming at him to get back in the truck. The UFO "zaps" him and they figured he was dead. Mike returned a short time later to look for his body, but didn't find one. They told their story to the local police and an investigator (James Garner). The remaining 5 guys were being interviewed on a murder charge, as no everyone believed their story. They all agreed to take a lie detector test which they all passed. Travis returned five days later without having any food or water and was severely dehydrated and was taken to the hospital. The last part of the movie, deals with his ordeal of being kidnapped, taken away and having medical experiments done to him by aliens. This movie kept me on edge the entire time! I NEVER was bored! The last 10 minutes of this movie terrified me more than any horror film I ever saw. It is the best thrill ride you could ever be on, at the expense of Travis Walton. Buy it and watch it, I highly recommend it!

Movie Review: An Alien Abduction Case and Human Drama
Summary: 5 Stars

"Fire in the Sky" opens with a quotation from the Greek dramatist Aeschylus: "Thus does chance make a plaything of a man's life"-pretty highbrow stuff for a sci fi flick about an alien abduction. In fact, the opening quotation of this excellent and underrated screenplay by Tracy Torme is aptly chosen and deftly introduces the deeper, metaphysical underlying themes of the movie.

Far more than an exploitation film about UFOs, the film not only raises fundamental questions not about whether mankind is alone in the universe, it also portrays an almost Shakespeareanesque tragedy. The film reveals deep conflicts between the five witnesses and their community over the community's absolute denial of the witnesses' version of events, against all evidence.. The community simply cannot reconcile this version of events with their understanding of the physical world. Intertwined with the disbelief of this impossible-but-true presentation of the case is a very human story between Mike Rogers and Travis Walton--best of friends whose friendships are strained by controversy and resentment.

The Travis Walton abduction case remains to this day a classic UFO case, among the best documented on record. The genius of this film is that it begins with the premise that the case is absolutely real and portrays the incident in a stark, chilling, documentary-like sequence. Only then can the really interesting questions surface, What does it all mean, do we have the courage to ask and to face the truth, whatever the truth may be?

Movie Review: Makes you believe
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw a trailer for fire in the sky when I was young, can't remember how old but between ten and thirteen. I've always had a fear of the "Grey" style of aliens, mostly because I've always believed that these particular kinds of aliens exist. Maybe it's just me, maybe I've watched too many discovery channel and Learning channel specials on alien abductions. But the trailer alone gave me nightmares as a kid, and I've been wanting to see it ever since.

At least once a year I go looking for the movie in stores and at local movie rental places like Blockbuster, to no avail. not on DVD VHS or any other media. So this year I said to myself: "that's it! I'm just going to find it online." One amazon purchase later and I'm watching a movie that's been on my mind for several years for the first time. and it won't be the last.

Fire In The Sky is a movie about a man who was once abducted by aliens. He was absolutely traumatized by the event, and had amnesia about it as well, but through a series of flashbacks he gets his memory of the event back. As he gets his memories of the event about rhe spacecraft back it's depicted to the viewer.

It's quite a good movie with stellar performances, and engaging characters. I highly recommend it. Especially to anyone that's a fan of alien movies.

Movie Review: Ok so it doesn't follow the book..
Summary: 5 Stars

And that's okay with me because no I haven't read the book but I know the real Travis Walton says that he saw human like creatures and aliens on the ship and that he actually scared them and they ran away from him. To me that's not really scary, I mean I believe it happened to him. I've always believed we aren't alone in the universe. And maybe some aliens are nice and curious creatures but who says there is only one species? I think that's what the director wanted to do with Fire. Close Encounters of the Third kind potray aliens as friendly, and while that's a good movie what is more entertaining? Watching aliens giving a tour or watching aliens perform painful experiments? At least everyone I know that's seen this film were freaked out by it. I remember watching Fire when I was eleven and it scared me for weeks. I'm 22 now and I recently just bought it on DVD and the end sequence still freaked me out. It is well directed and acted. And I think it is possible that Travis would return alive if what happened in the film really did happen to him. The aliens never try to kill him, they are experimenting on another species. We would do the same to an alien if it was found on Earth right? So don't be hypocrites. An amazing movie.

Movie Review: a perfect alien abduction film
Summary: 5 Stars

Fire in the Sky is one of the most memorable films of the nineties for me, It had it all, compelling characters, the right pacing for a thriller, and quite possibly the scariest conclusion one could hope for.
some of the things that makes this film great are the attention to the storyline, the acting, and without a doubt the creature effects, which will leave you absolutelly stunned that a film like this was made in the early part of the nineties, and the special effects look absolutelly real, where nowadays we get to see horribly executed CG creatures that , because of their cheapness become forgetable. Definetelly not the case here.
Another note, the film is suposedly based on a real story, and the story does pout forward arguments that leave the viewer wonderung weather it could have been possible, since it presents all the possible sides. Anyone who is looking for a film that will stay with you for long after you've watched it, then check this one out. THis is one of the highest possible recomendation i could give fans of sci-fi thrillers, or just horror in general.
