Movie Reviews of Fingersmith

Movie Review: great story
Summary: 5 Stars

Although, the topic is of a mature nature, it is handled by the director and actors as a revealing look into how two unlikely people found something neither expected to find in each other. The story has many twists, capturing one's attention. The underlying love affair is a consequence of the story line and therefore adds to the suspense.

Movie Review: Magical story
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved the book and I feel that this movie did it justice. The actresses are new favorites of mine, and I feel they really captured the spirit of the characters. The movie really does a fantastic job of transporting viewers to 19th century England just as the book does. I would definately recommend this movie and the book.

Movie Review: British movie rule!
Summary: 5 Stars

Watching this movie...you swear that they both love each other so deeply. The two lead actreses superp! Sally Hawkins (Sue) and Elaine Cassidy (Maud) really got the role like no other actors in Hollywood can compare. They are so talent. The love scene (on the wedding night) is heart breaking and beutiful in the same time.

Movie Review: Better than "Tipping the Velvet"
Summary: 5 Stars

This adaptation of Sarah Waters' book was even better than "Tipping the Velvet" - better plot twists, more curvy storyline, etc. She "teases out" the subtext of Victorian novels to bring them into the forefront - giving them much deserved attention. A fun watch.

Movie Review: Splendid story. Rich with detail
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an intriguing story rich with detail about life in a certain period in England. Information on that sub-culture of the pornographers was fascinating as was the information on how people simply survived. This is Charles Dickens with a wonderful twist.
