Movie Reviews of Ffolkes

Movie Review: Just a lot of fun!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great flick! Every once in a while you find one of these hidden gems and it makes it all worth while. I'd never heard of this movie before I found it on amazon and it's a blast! I knew from the opening scene it would be enjoyable and that proved true. Moore does a great job, and "ole golden vocal chords" himself - James Mason - puts in another smashing performance. I really liked this one! It's simple, uncomplicated, and has a great supporting cast like old hand Jack Watson. I wish they could have fun making movies like this today. No hidden, deep meaning, no plot machinations, just a good yarn with good action and great acting. Ah, when Hollywood could make enjoyable movies, instead of depressing ones. None of today's excessive special effects, just a few good ones because in those days it was the writing, plot and acting that made a good movie. If you want to have a nice Saturday night and go away happy and cheering, you should add this one to your collection!

Movie Review: One of the best action adventures finally comes to DVD
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this movie on British television (under its overseas title of "North Sea Hijack") and it ranks for me personally as my favorite Roger Moore movie. When I learned it was finally going to make its way onto DVD I was ecstatic.
In this fun action-adventure Roger Moore leads a commando team that must come to the rescue of two oil rigs in the North Sea and a Norwegian cargo vessel that have been targeted with booby trapped bombs. Playing very much against type Moore's eccentric character "Ffolkes" doesn't like women and instead enjoys the company of cats.
The supporting cast of this movie is also extraordinary. James Mason plays a naval commander, David Hedison is the executive for the oil company and Anthony Perkins is the head of the terrorists. It is a tense, suspenseful adventure with the occassional light touch of humor and I highly recommend it.

Movie Review: "That's ffolks. Two small "f"'s." = EXCELLENT!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a fan of this film since it first aired on cable movie channels here in the US in the early 80's. I still remember some of my favorite lines as, "Cigarette, Kramer?" or the captain saying, "I'm not in the business of making terrorists happy." w/ Kramer responding, "Terrorists are confused. I don't follow politics of any kind, but I do know what I want." And the look in Perkin's eyes right before Moore finishes him off. IMMORTAL!

This movie was well written, scripted and played out by a once in a lifetime cast. Even the "situation" of the bombs and how to diffuse them are totally on the money and not some "hollywood" story.

Moore is fantastic and memorable as ffolkes and will list as one of his best performances. This is a must have film!!

Movie Review: A sleeper, not to be missed.
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was a real sleeper and most people have never heard of it -- their loss. I have a copy in VHS (poor quality) and was excited to find it in DVD (and much improved in quality). Roger Moore plays Ffolks, a cat loving, needlepointing misogynist who has assembled a team of anti-terrorist operatives. When a oil platform in the North Sea is held hostage, whom can the British government turn to? Ffolks, of course.
The writing is great, the acting (how can you go wrong with James Mason, Anthony Perkins and Roger Moore?) is believable, and the story is still topical today. Get a copy of the DVD, you won't regret it.

Movie Review: Ffolkes... just Ffolkes...
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is a real suprise and a pleasure to watch. Roger Moore starred as the mysogynistic Ffolkes at the same time that he was making his James Bond movies and bedding women onscreen by the score. The woman-hating Ffolkes is a refreshingly different character role for Moore and the action is much more believable than most of his Bond movies.

Called upon to thwart a group of hijackers who have taken over an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, he and his anti-terrorist group make an exciting job of it. This is a fun movie and gives viewers a chance to see Moore in an unusual role. Highly recommended.
