Movie Reviews of Festival Express

Movie Review: Fun, fun, fun
Summary: 5 Stars

This was basically a backstage/tour view of the artists traveling across Canada. It displayed the comradery and developing friendships of the players and highlighted some fabulous performances on and off stage. It was a blast from the past. It was awesome to see Jerry Garcia and Janis. It there was a downside, it was the excessive interviews with the tour manager. I felt that detracted from the exuberance of the film.

Movie Review: i was there
Summary: 5 Stars

THIS BRINGS BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES I WAS THERE WITH SOME FRIENDS IN TORONTO AT THE FESTIVAL. I WAS LIVING IN BUFFALO AT THE TIME AND DROVE TO TORONTO. WE HAD A GREAT TIME ONLY WISHED ALVIN LEE AND TYA COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE FILM. WAS GREAT TO SEE JANIS AND THE BAND. MY BIG MEMORY WAS ALMOST GETTING RUN OVER BY THE BAND IN THERE LIMO, THEY STOPPED AND ASKED IF I WAS OK. BOY DOES 35 YEARS GO BY FAST

Movie Review: A Chance For The Young!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a dinosaur. I have been a Deadhead since the year this movie was made, and seeing Jerry and the gang, especially Pigpen, so young again was a wonderful treat. Seeing Janice Joplin and the rest of the great artists in this film was also something very special. This is a wonderful chance for those who are too young to have seen these artists to experience them. I highly recommend this film!

Movie Review: Festival Express
Summary: 5 Stars

Intimate performance film recreates the heady times of 1970, when the memory of Woodstock was still fresh. Grateful Dead fans will enjoy seeing Garcia in his prime, Joplin breaks your heart offstage (and dazzles you on-) and you can't go wrong with those other acts. Director Smeaton skillfully blends footage of the happening with contemporary reminiscences. A must for any rock fan.

Movie Review: Memorable and Awesome!
Summary: 5 Stars

Although this DVD is touted as being "better than 'Woodstock'" (which it isn't), it's still an exceptionally excellent rememberance of a travelling concert through Canada by some of the 60's best performers. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will watch it over and over (as I do the other great concert videos such as "Woodstock" and "The Last Waltz".
