Movie Reviews of Femme FataleMovie Review: Truly erotic and truly thrilling Summary: 5 Stars
I thnk Brian DePalma invented the erotic thriller. I don't mean the lamers that substitute blood for thrills and flashes of skin for eroticism. This film defines the genre. DePalme weaves and intricate and initially confusing and incredible plot line then sprinkles hints and giveaways throughout the movie that leads to a wonderful surprise that will have you wondering why you did not guess it. I love DePalmas blend of imagery, score and dialog, as another reviewer mentions, the score alone rates this film at 5 stars. The story is mesmerizing and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos does a remarkable job in the dual role of Lilli/Laure. When you get to the end you will want to watch it again immediately and if anything it is more enjoyable the second time around - can't say that about many mystery thrillers.Buy this movie and enjoy. I would buy the soundtrack CD in a heartbeat.
Movie Review: BRIAN DE PALMA, OPUS 26 Summary: 5 Stars
***** 2002. Written and directed by Brian De Palma. A woman manipulates a photographer in order to escape her former accomplices she fooled seven years before. Another masterpiece from the American master who delivers a stunning and smart movie about dreams. Too bad that the film lost a lot of money at the box-office. Brian De Palma was given a total liberty by his producer Tarik Ben Ammar to shoot the film he wanted to present to the audience. As the director explains in one of the featurettes of the DVD, FEMME FATALE is a film that can be seen several times and still reserve some goodies to an attentive viewer. Once you're aware of the main surprise of the film, you'll be then really able to appreciate the work of Brian De Palma on details you didn't notice during the first vision of FEMME FATALE. A DVD zone your library.
Movie Review: Definitely Worth It. Summary: 5 Stars
This movie has everything intrig, murder, deception, sex, love, and even a chance to change ones destiny. De Palmas film photagraphy is great beyond believe. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (Laure) plays her roll very well and the chemistry between her and Antonio Banderas just sets the sparks on screen. In the movie Laure is a deceitful woman who is only after money. Antonio gets into the spider net by thinking Laure needs help, and in the end ends up participating in her game without even realizing it. This movie was a big hit in Europe, I almost so it in St. Petersburg, but changed my mind and decided to see it in English instead. I was a little surprised and disappointed that the movie did not have the same reviews as it did in Europe, because it really should. You wont be disappointed.
Movie Review: Weird and wonderful; sexy and spectacular Summary: 5 Stars
Yowtch, this was a beauty. Three quarters of the time, you're as confused and mesmerized as Antonio Banderas, like: WTF is going on? Brian de Palma really knows how to make a movie. Femme Fatale rivits the attention of the audience from the opening looooong scene (almost without dialogue) of a jewel heist at the Cannes film festival. It's a case of one-up-manship, and Laure, who got away with the real jewels, skips to the US and assumes a new identity. 'The plot thickens' when circumstances take her back to Paris, where her real ID is unmasked by Banderas, a totally engaging, suspicious, and confused (as we viewers are) paparazzo. This thriller challenges your belief in what you're seeing and of course has a twisty ending that's entirely satisfying. Spectacular and kinky WEIRD!
Movie Review: FEMME FATALE IS DE PALMA'S BEST IN YEARS Summary: 5 Stars
Without doubt FEMME FATALE is De Palma's best film in years. I bought the dvd, knowing the film didn't do well at the cinema, but so what? It doesn't mean it's a crap film! I saw the film and was knocked by it. The plot with its twists and turns, and throughout the film, the clues are there, as to what might or not might happen. Rebecca Romijn is gorgeous (I read that that Uma Thurman was mentioned for the role), but Romijn is more sexy in the part of Laura Ash. In my opinion Thurman isn't even attractive. Bandereas ids good as are everyboy else in the film. De Palma is the king of erotic thrillers and no one is better than him, even his other thrillers like SCARFACE, DRESSED TO KILL, BLOW OUT CARLITO'S WAY etc. De Palma is the best!
