Movie Reviews of Femme Fatale

Movie Review: This Film Will Blow You Away!
Summary: 5 Stars

This film blew me away. Movies are my hobby, I live in a moderately small city (e.g. population 115,000). A movie is almost the only option for a teenager here. So I've seen my fair share and beyond. My friends and I have worked and do work at theaters so I got to see a lot of movies for free. This allowed me to view movies I wouldn't regularly pay for. I had not heard anything about Femme Fatale when I saw it at the theater. Not knowing what I was in for, this movie blew me away. My good friend and fellow reviewer Kyle Marcum made a far better analogy than anything I've thought of thus far so I will just use it and credit him for it. The analogy being that of the Sierra Mist Commercials, "Yeah it's kind of like that." It is the best way to make you realize the feeling of refreshment I had after experiencing this film. I was so happy to see a film in which the writer/director had courage enough to include everything thing he/she did in this film. It is about time that someone really pressed the envelope to include these sometimes-essential elements for a suspenseful film. In the end there is no doubt in my mind that this film will blow you away! I give it the maximum stars available.
Two thumbs up!

Movie Review: Dazzling De Palma
Summary: 5 Stars

In the worlds of movie making and popular music it seems artists talents normally diminish with age. Those once bold, adventurous and daring play safe and seem to lose their unique vision and voice. It's reassuring to see Brian De Palma making a movie that is amongst his very best, boldest and most groundbreaking work.
Many of De Palma's stylistic trademarks are on display from the opening but he really explores new territory here. The multilayered story is like the late British giant of innovative television and film writing, Dennis Potter, at his best. It is fetishistic, flash, cold and calculating on the surface but it is a very intelligent film, and, like its central character, it is tender and romantic at its core.
Unlike some reviewers I won't be giving away key plot spoilers so you can enjoy Femme Fatale's surprizes fully. Other movies with extreme twists often offer little reason for repeated viewing once you know their key plot twist but Femme Fatale is NO one trick pony and stands up to watching it again and again. It's refreshing to see De Palma unafraid of taking real chances at this stage of his career and pulling it all off brilliantly. This is the work of a true great of modern cinema at the top of his game.

Movie Review: "I'm A Bad Girl..."
Summary: 5 Stars

...so purrs Rebecca Romijn-Stamos' Laure to Antonio Banderas' Nicholas Bardo. RRS is breathtakingly beautiful and a damn fine actress to boot in DePalma's stylish thriller. Also, Banderas' comedy chops took me by surprise. Other reviewers have commented that you either love or hate this movie, so place me in the former category. This is a triumph of technique and visually stunning. The story line by DePalma himself is as convoluted and fantastically contrived as any he has come up with, but that only adds to the entertainment factor for me - and makes me want to watch it again and again. Much like SNAKE EYES or MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, the plot is difficult to follow but rewarding nonetheless. This is a story of sleight of hand and features trickery of every imaginable variety.

As for the setting in France, I found the French language annoying, but the atmosphere created by the director was mesmerizing. DePalma's commentary in the Special Features section was enlightening and added to the enjoyment of this disk.

Movie Review: Great Film Noir

I fear that Roxie52 missed the point. Remember; "In the end, all things will become manifest".
That's what it took to understand the film,....waiting until the end,..'tho I did wonder about some of the clues along the way.
How many of us have wished we could 'have another chance to get it right', or at least better? Laure/Lily lived that wish.
AND, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos,... In addition to having a body that would make an 8-day clock run forever,... made being bad simply delectable. All those looks, and, She can ACT!
I mean, as Laure?/Lily?(which is which?, who is who?), She had no redeeming qualities what-so-ever.
The film is an excellent example of stunning visuals, an interesting plot line, with a twist at the end that knocked my socks off.
As for the film's musical soundtrack, one word, "Bolerish"!
As the Brits would say; "A ripping good show, well done, Old Chap"!

Movie Review: Slick, Sexy, Style....It's more than most thrillers give us!
Summary: 5 Stars

I caught this in the theater and am glad to see all the positive reviews from people who have discovered this gem on dvd. Femme Fatale is an excellent twist a minute thriller. I love the opening heist scene at the Cannes Film Festival. It's great the way De Palma builds suspense by using the playful music theme, and builds on it, instead of using typical "shock" thriller music. It is fine movie making.

However, while it is stylish and sexy throughout the first part, it is truly the ending that makes the movie. Some may say it counts too much on the conclusion, but I found the solution to be perfectly sly. I couldn't help but grin at the cleverness of the last 10 minutes.

Both leads are good in their parts, but Rebecca Romjin-Stamos soars in this role. She is THE woman for THE part. Brian De Palma directs Femme Fatale masterfully with the wisdom he has gained over the years. It's a wild ride. Well Done!
