Movie Reviews of Female Trouble

Movie Review: "I'm the most famous person you've ever seen!"
Summary: 5 Stars

Female Trouble is definitely one of John Waters funniest movies... Divine, Mink Stole, Edith Massey, Mary Vivian Pearce, and David Lochary all together on screen for the last time (as well as the rest of the "Pink Flamingos" crew)... Divine plays Dawn Davenport... a delinquent teen who decides to run away from home when she doesn't get the shoes she wants for christmas... gets knocked up by a mechanic (also played by Divine)... and gives birth (on a couch) to Taffy (Mink Stole)... Taffy is very vengeful toward her mother for not letting her go to school or have friends... Edith Massey plays "Aunt Ida" very well... funniest character in the movie by far... Mary Vivian Pearce and David Lochary play the Beauty Salon owners, who recruit Davenport (Divine) for their "Crime is Beauty" experiment... I won't give away the ending... but if you enjoy John Waters... then this is a must-see for you!!! and although not AS grotesque as "Pink Flamingos", there are times you will find yourself wishing you could look away in disgust... but then you wont! *****!

Movie Review: The Best Movie Ever Committed to Film
Summary: 5 Stars

Why is it that everyone expects an artist to do the same thing over and over again? Why is it that every review I've heard of this film by viewers always have to start their reviews saying something pointless like, "This isn't the grossest delve into depravity that Waters has done before." You get the idea. "Female Trouble" is a classic. In many ways, more of a classic than "Pink Flamingoes" will ever be. (Not that "Pink Flamingoes" isn't or shouldn't be considered a classic.) "Female Trouble" doesn't rely on the same "already been done" techniques or tactics that worked before. Let's put our hands up and clap for John Waters for realizing that evolution as an artist is just as important as a stunning hairdo and fabulous makeup. He has created timeless characters, magnificent dialogue, and a sense of glee that has rarely if ever been duplicated on the prosaic, puritan-ridden American cinematic screen. So let's give Mr. Waters a chance, shall we? Let's not pigeon-hole him as so many of Hollywood consumers often do with film makers and allow him to grow as an artist.

Movie Review: Ever Since I've Watched This Movie, My Life Has Been Like a Vacation!
Summary: 5 Stars

Tawdry and scandalous, John Waters creates the ultimate star vehicle for the incomparable Divine. Combining themes involving juvenile delinquency, celebrating holidays with the family, the perils of hitchiking, fashion, childbirth and single motherhood, the seduction of fame and glamour, robbery, murder, and ultimately, incarceration, Divine more than rises to the occasion, chewing the scenery right and left. She gives a fearless performance that equals and even surpasses Susan Hayward's in that other dramatic woman-behind-bars weepie, "I Want To Live!". Imagine a star vehicle with the both of them! Oh, if only Dawn Davenport and Barbara Graham could have been cell-mates to the bitter end, what a movie THAT would have been!

But I digress ...

Movie Review: camp, drag, cult classic ....
Summary: 5 Stars

divine is at his best in this one !! be prepared for a john waters bedtime story... .. mink stole as "taffy " dawn davenports, not so young and or attractive looking daughter .... and the wonderfull edith massey as her "mucho" less then attrative nieghbor !! "aunt ida". is to much for one person... this has camp , gore , degradation , drugs , and a story line that is disturbingly funny i highly recommend this for any john waters fan and or divine fan !! this was my first "divine experience" and trust i havent forgoten it yet ..... i recommend "pink flamingos" as a companion !!

Movie Review: Not on Christmas, Not on Christmas!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes!! On Christmas or any other holiday. One of Divine's and Waters' best movies. Not for the faint hearted. However, if you are a fan of Divine or Waters, this is not to be missed.

Divine chews up the script and scenery with her portriat of Dawn Davenport acting like an overweight Liz Taylor.

The story line is great as well as all the other characters in this film.

In my opinion, this movie is up there with Citizen Kane and Rules of the Game. A must for any person who loves camp and trash.
