Movie Reviews of Fatso

Movie Review: One of the funniest and most heartfelt comedies of all time!
Summary: 5 Stars

Fatso! The title puts you on notice that there is nothing of a politically correct nature here. Prepare to squirm in your seat -- perhaps with recognition of yourself or members of your own family. There are no holds barred here, we see this amazing circle of friends and family "warts and all." They live large. They love large. They eat large, and therein lies the problem.

The family makes you fat from when you are a little kid. You grow up and the society of the outside "real" world hates you for it. Your family wants you to lose weight now, too. But they feed you tons just the same.

How do you survive? Can you ever find a soulmate other than a pepperoni pizza or a cheese cake?

If you haven't seen this well-loved but little-known gem of a movie yet, please buy your copy of it now. It doesn't matter if you are Italian, Irish, or Indian. This is a movie about all families and the struggle we all undergo to live as best we can and be true to ourselves as individuals -- not just members of a group.

If you don't absolutely adore Dom Deluise already, you will love him when you see this film.

I can't recommend it highly enough. Fatso is a classic film.

Movie Review: Obesity, Food Obsession, Desperate Measures, Love & Hilarity In A Brooklyn Italian-American Family!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this movie at age 16 in 1980, and boy does it still make me
laugh whenever I've seen it throughout the years!
I would argue this as one of the late Dom Deluise's greatest movie performances,
alongside his stuff with Burt Reynolds in the 70's.
I'm going to assume that most of you out there have already seen
this movie at least once, so I'm going to spare you a blow by blow
filled with spoilers, but suffices to say that this movie has plenty
of good belly laughs in it! (-: The interplay between Dom & the actor who plays
his baby brother, who he dotes over is one of the film's highlights.
Anne Bancroft was priceless as the always irrate curmedgeon
of a sister who doesn't know how to communicate her love other than to hit & scream!
She also wrote & directed the whole film, which I didn't find out until years later!
The whole ensemble cast was great in this.
A classic addition to your DVD collection for all time!

Movie Review: Still a riot
Summary: 5 Stars

My family and I first saw this film back in the early 80s while stuck at a hotel. It was played through the entire hotel on a loop, and since there were no local channels to speak of, we watched it numerous times. We laughed and laughed, and as far as I can remember, we never saw it again after that. Despite that, we used to quote this movie in various situations... "You ate the ONY" at every birthday party, and "Get da honey junior" could often be heard around our home. All that from one weekend with "Fatso".
I was nervous to check it out again in fear that I had made it funnier in memory than it actually was, nope, it's still a riot! Although I knew every joke that was about to come up, because of the delivery and comedic timing of all the actors I laughed out loud. This is a gem and should be seen by any fan of comedies. The writing, directing, and acting are all spot on. Plus when you consider the price, it's not a risk. You'll get way more bang for your buck with this than other films.

Movie Review: DELICIOUSLY FUNNY!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This Movie is HYSTERICAL!! The depiction of an Itallian-American family couldn't be more accurate! As an individual who's father's side is from 100 percent Itallian herritage, the similarities are not only familiar but EXACT, - the crying, the eating, the crying, the eating, the laughing, the eating, the laughing, the eating, the LOVE, the eating - THE PASSION - THE EATING!!! While family, food, and emotion are the focus throughout this movie, we realize we all have a litte DeNapoli in all of us - whether from Itallian herritage or not! As a wonderfully written and directed, movie, Fatso brings heart, soul and body simultaneously at the forefront of familialarity and HILARITY !!! Do yourself a favor and stop reading my review and Pre-order this movie on DVD! Thank you Anne Bancroft for this wonderful family classic - May u shine in heaven.

Movie Review: You don't have to be Italian to love this movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Recently caught this movie on HBO, and now it's definitely going into my DVD collection. Anne Bancroft's writing and direction are truly superb.

Found it to be hold-my-sides funny, yet sincerely touching. I love the interaction between Dom DeLuise and Ron Carey as the two brothers, and it's great to see Ron Carey get much more to do here than his oftentimes brief appearances on Barney Miller as Officer Levitt.

Candice Azzara as the love interest is perfectly cast opposite Dom DeLouise. The two of them made even my jaded heart remember what it feels like to fall head-over-heels in love!

There are just so many funny, funny scenes in this movie. And so much quiet tenderness that really brings back the feeling of the pre-cellphone, pre-texting, pre-blogging days. Loved this movie!
