Movie Reviews of FasterMovie Review: Recommended for gearheads and motorcycle enthusiasts Summary: 4 Stars
Faster
As a gearhead and motorcycle enthusiast, I was interested in watching Faster based on all the positive reviews. I do not know much about the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, the different riders and teams, or much about MotoGP itself. Having read a few books on riding techniques, I've heard about riders like Rainey, Rossi, and Schwantz but did not know more than just the name.
Faster isn't quite a movie. It is truly a documentary compiled with some race footage from the 2003 MotoGP season and lots of interviews. There's no plot, other than following the season very loosely. I learned a great deal about the change from the 500cc 2-stroke to the 990cc 4-stroke engines in the MotoGP class, and got a good primer on all of the riders. The "rivalry" between Max Biaggi and Valentino Rossi was probably the bulk of the documentary, with John Hopkins dominating the latter half of the film. Doing a Google search on all of these riders, Rossi is the only one remaining in MotoGP, and doing fairly well although time will tell for the 2011 season with his switch to the Ducati team. Biaggi is now in World Superbike racing for Aprilia until the 2012 season. Hopkins is now racing for Crescent Suzuki in the British Superbike series.
Some of the riders' injuries are featured in the film, along with some interviews with the famous Dr. Costa, the doctor that gives riders the option to get back on the bike even with incredible injuries. While one might criticize this type of medical advice, it is understandable because to a racer, racing is everything. They will do whatever it takes to keep racing, even if it means enduring excruciating pain. You can't force a racer to do something against their will.
The documentary was well done, but it is mostly a hodge podge of interviews and I only recommend renting or borrowing it versus buying new.
Overall: 4/5 stars
Movie Review: I beg to differ Summary: 4 Stars
with everyone who claims this documentary has all the action of a fictional hollywood movie. Yes, the bikes are awesome, yes the speed is captured well, and yes the drama between Rossi and Biaggi is entertaining, but it didnt knock me over as many other reviewers claimed it should.
I'm not downing the idea, I just think the seasons they covered didnt have a lot to work with as far as content. They made the most of it, no doubt, and spun it as dramatically as they could, but it really is a three star DVD, IMHO.
It gets four however for the sound of those umteen-thousand RPM redlining engines...that's serious music.
Movie Review: Everybody Loves To Zoom Summary: 4 Stars
If you're a motorcyclist, but don't watch racing, you'll certainly love FASTER nontheless. Even if you don't own a bike, you'll likely enjoy most of this short film. The dvd includes a sequel with multiple extra scenes on both discs, making the price worthwhile.
Great camera work, gives a great perspective of what it's like to lean knee deep into the corners on a sport bike. Narration by Ewan MacGregor gives descriptions for those unfamiliar with the Moto GP world.
Great insights into the psychology of risk, such as when the staff physician says "Mick Doohan taught me how to live".
Movie Review: If you like motorcycle racing, you must see this film! Summary: 4 Stars
This two disk dvd set follows the 01-02 and 02-03 MotoGP seasons. It profiles riders like Rossi, Capirossi, Biaggi, Edwards, Hayden, etc. With discussion of bike differences from stock/dealer showroom floors, this video will make a fan out of any motorcyclist! The only down side is that it is almost impossible to see these films and not become a Valentino Rossi fan!
It is a little choppy as it is a docudrama, but if you can't ride the track, you can atleast go faster, faster, Faster!
Movie Review: Informative Summary: 4 Stars
This was a real exciting movie about the history and culture of Moto GP. It contained excelent interactive scenes from races of the 2001-2004 Moto GP seasons. It gave a clear insight of what it takes to be and stay a Moto GP racer and that its not all easy as it seems. Anyone who wants to learn about this grand and dangerous sport should buy and watch this DVD.
