Movie Reviews of Fast Food NationMovie Review: Disturbing...just like the reality behind the fiction Summary: 5 Stars
There seem to be two threads that reviewers have followed here - the first, that the movie is disturbing and violent; and the second, that the fiction wasn't as good as the book.
Well.
It's SUPPOSED to be disturbing. Schlosser probably allowed the sex and gore to be in the fictionalized story, even though it wasn't in his book so much, because the film can show what really happens to people in ways a book just can't. You can read about the killing floor, and get grossed out, but seeing it is just something entirely different. And people need to see that - to realize what we're putting into our bodies, and what we're doing to our society.
As for the fictionalized story not being as good as the factual book, I agree, but I do think it was done for entertainment's sake, to get characters you can care about rather than a lecturer (I'm not saying it necessarily succeeded - just that I suspect that was the aim).
The book was sickening 6 years ago when I read it, and the movie is just as much so. If enough people see this, maybe it would be wise to buy some stock in Whole Foods???
Last note - Great acting by Kinnear - really loved his character.
Movie Review: Underated Gem! Summary: 5 Stars
I really liked this film that has the effect of a documentary and makes one think not only about not eating in fast food restaurants but maybe being vegetarian instead. Great cameos by Bruce Willis and Ethan Hawke. The young Colombian actress from Maria Full of Grace has one of the main parts. Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has a small part and does an excellent job too!
The directing is similar to the movie Crash with the director cutting back and forth between three main stories that tend to overlap in parts of the film. There is the Marketing executive of Mickie's restaurants trying to find out why there are too many feces showing up in Mickies patties. The second story centers around a group of Mexican illegals being smuggled into the country so they can find jobs. The main characters of the group end up at the meat processing plant where the patties for Mickies "big one" are made. The third story involves a teen that works in a Mickie's restaurant but is convinced by her school buddies to try to protest the company.
I was riveted to the tale from the start and I really enjoyed it. I can't understand why the average rating is not higher for this film. I give it a full five stars.
Movie Review: Important, life-changing movie Summary: 5 Stars
It's been more than 6 months since I watched this movie, but there are parts of it that I will never forget. The "killing floor" scene will stay with me for the rest of my life. My neighbor asked me to watch this movie because both of our households eat nothing but organic food. She owned the movie and thought we'd enjoy watching it. I can't honestly say that I "enjoyed" watching all of it because much of it was graphic cruelty to animals, and we care deeply about animals at our house. However, I can honestly say that it was the most important movie I have ever watched when it comes to thinking about the food we eat. After watching the entire DVD, including all of the special features, we have not eaten another bite of meat from anywhere and have not purchased any meat whatsoever, not even organic meat. We have literally been vegetarians ever since watching this movie, without regret. Because of this movie, never again will an animal have to die to feed my family. No more pork, beef, chicken, fish, or any other breathing being will die to feed us. We never saw this coming when we sat down to watch this movie, but I am a changed soul for having watched it and highly recommend it to everyone.
Movie Review: If anything, you might lose weight. Summary: 5 Stars
This is an important movie I think everyone should see - but it's not for everyone. Not everyone wants to know the truth about the world we live in, much less do something about it. Given that frame of reference, this movie could be depressing for a lot of people. I sort of knew the trouble we are in with our food and what we are putting into our bodies, but there were items in this movie, especially in the special features, I had no idea about.
The movie is full of my favorite actors, it's good to see talented people doing such important work. I recommend this movie to anyone with the stomach for it. If anything, you might lose weight.

Movie Review: The Kill Floor Summary: 5 Stars
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
This is more of a commentary than a review but take what you will from it.
I read a review that said they wished for closure on the Greg Kinnear story arc... The closure was, that there was NO closure to his thread... or any of the other threads.
I think many viewers wanted something (ironically) neatly packaged for easy consumption... maybe spoonfed?
The whole movie was basically a "six degrees of separation" of the fast food industry.
Yes, for the most part illegal aliens do work in meat processing plants... yes the women may or may not have to do things to get ahead (but that happens EVERYWHERE).
Impressionable youths go off and become crusaders, and people that know what really goes on in the industry stay in there cushy jobs collecting a fat check, and turn the other cheek.
That's it for now. I'll add more later.
