Movie Reviews of Far and AwayMovie Review: One of the few Tom Cruise movies I actually enjoy Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of greatest epics of the 1990s. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman are excellant. I thought their Irish accents were great, plus the cinematography and soundtrack are excellant. It is a classic story of how two different Irish immigrants achieve the American Dream. They make mistakes, overcome adversities, and find each other despite their differences and flaws. Some say this movie perpetuates negative Irish sterotypes, but good grief, they are the hero and heroine of the story. Say what you will about stereotypes, they do usually have SOME truth in them. Finally, the movie has intimate love, not just constant sex. A great movie about that era.
Movie Review: Ron Howard's "Wondrous epic" Summary: 5 Stars
Don't listen to the haters who call this truly "wondrous" film anything less than a masterpiece. Those who claim FAR AND AWAY has no plot are the same who would likely say the same of MOULIN ROUGE. It seems that a great love story these days is no longer enough, but perhaps only for those who don't really know what love is.
FAR AND AWAY has been my favorite film since I was about 10 or 11 and my parents rented the film. I'm 20 now and I recently saw the film again--it is as wondrous and moving and sweet and beautiful as it ever was. It is a film grand in scope. It is a great glimpse at how talented Nicole Kidman was, even then.
Movie Review: I can't believe this is only a 2-star movie. Summary: 5 Stars
I might I have only been intrigued by this movie because I was bored (first saw it at 12:00 at night on TV when I couldn't sleep), but I was shocked at what a MIRACULOUS film this is. I couldn't stop thinking about it for days. For critics to say there was no story, WHERE WERE YOU DURING THIS MOVIE? All the twists and turns kept me guessing until the end. It was in no way predictable. All throughout the movie, I thought Shannon and Joseph would kiss and live happily ever after, but something would tear them apart. Films like this come few and far between. I highly recommend this epic!!!
Movie Review: It was the best of times, it was the worste of times Summary: 5 Stars
Despite the fact that I dislike Tom Cruise I must say that every once in a while he stars in a good film and does a great job. Nicole Kidman on the other hand always does a great job but, like her ex-husband, doesn't always have the best taste in screenplays. Far and Away is, in my opinion, Tom and Nicole at their best. The characters both throw their fates into the wind of change and realize that it is only with each other will they land in the hands of grace. Call me an old sentimental fool but that's simply beautiful. Inspiring, funny, sad and romantic, this movie has it all.
Movie Review: a great historic film Summary: 5 Stars
I have fallen in love with this movie based on the 1893 Oklahoma Land Run. My relatives on both sides of my family were immigrants from Scotland and Germany. Both of these participated in the 1893 Oklahoma Land Run. This Land run was pivotal to the developement of what is now the state of Oklahoma. The cinematography is wonderful. The actual " Land Run" scene makes you feel the excitement that those who staked their claim on the land must have felt. A great film by Ron Howard.
