Movie Reviews of Fantastic PlanetMovie Review: Unfairly Obscure Summary: 5 Stars
I rented this movie on Netflix and I didn't have any problems with the DVD. Its availablity on Netflix appears somewhat limited. It was removed from my queue once. I guess since it's a foreign film it's more obscure than it should be. Get your hands on this thing when you can.
Fantastic Planet is like an art film with an actual story. Everything about it is good, even the repetitive soundtrack. It paints a vivid picture of the wonder and brutality of life. Strange life forms are all over the place and fight amongst each other in disturbing, yet wornderful visuals. Even civilized creatures are animals.
I just hope watching this film didn't put me in the same kind of meditative trance the giant blue Traags practiced daily. You know, for a movie that spends so much time on meditation, it's not boring at all. Surprising really. I guess it gets you thinking, but it doesn't get you thinking TOO much.
Definitely one of the most imaginative things I've ever seen.
Movie Review: Copyright owner? Summary: 5 Stars
Short: I am looking for the copyright owner of this movie. Any information would be appreciated.
Long: I remember this movie from my youth. Along with my band, we are planning to write a sync'ed album to match up with the movie. I know...a strange project, but something I want to do. The problem is...before getting too far into this project, I would like to contact the copyright owner to secure distribution rights (in some form) so we could offer the movie pre-sync'ed with the music...instead of requiring the user to manually start the two (DVD and CD) together. Or...simply offer the movie and music in digital form. If anyone can help point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated.

Movie Review: Rene Laloux freaks us out Summary: 5 Stars
"Fantastic Planet" is an animated movie, released in 1973. It chronicles the life of a human named Ter, kept as a pet by a young girl who belongs to an alien race. He escapes his master and joins a civilization of wild humans (called "Ohms" by the master race).
This film is bizarre and sometimes even thought-provoking. The adversarial relationship that develops between the Ohms and their masters nearly destroys them both, and the road to ruin is fascinating and surreal for the viewer.
Early 1970s period music and what seems to be colored-pencil animation make this movie truly unique (the animation was completed in Czechoslovakia). Accolades for the film include the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
Movie Review: Fantastique Summary: 5 Stars
The title sums the movie up for me. I saw this movie on TV in the mid-1970's and was fascinated with the imagination of the subject matter. I had a chance to watch it again 2 years ago via a Netflix request, and was reminded of the creativity of the plot and imaginative animation. In February 2011 I finally had a chance to purchase it online. I purposely purchased the version that included "Le Escargots" (The Snails) and the Rene LeLoux interview. I only buy movies that I truly enjoy because I want to see them again and again. I love science-fiction, and this movie fits that genre. I am happy to say that I own this version of the movie.
Movie Review: Vintage Anime at its Best! Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie several years ago one late Saturday night I believe on Showtime. I was immeidately mesmerized. I was'nt too concerned with the subversive nature of the movie, only the groovy, hypnotic characters and the musical tones that I heard. It's Science Fiction mixed with animation in perfect harmony, and is a movie way ahead of its time. I actually racked up huge late fees a couple of times from the video store from renting this movie. I'm so pleased it is finally out on DVD. If you like, Sci Fi and animation with serious themes, and you really enjoy taking a trip, this movie is for you.
