Movie Reviews of Fantasia 2000

Movie Review: Fantastic Fantasia
Summary: 5 Stars

I was not new to this video. I saw the original on a huge surround screen in Columbus, Ohio. While critics say this is not as good as Fantasia "1", it is something original and beautiful and may not have passed muster with Walt (he was a perfectionist) it is a continuation of the art/music thematic material of original Disney...not the totally "commercial cutesy" that "makes a buck". I am shocked that very young kids "get it" as well as adults. Not many keep a dry eye with the Donald Duck/Daisy Duck "Noah" theme. And if one does not have Mickey Mouse in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, you have it on this disk and updated in color and sound. A collector's item, yes. And it will not collect dust over time with family interest.
The used, like new, condition from the vendor was perfect.

Movie Review: As incredible as Disney has us used to
Summary: 5 Stars

Given the abundant good reviews about the movie, I'd just like to add a short comment about my favorite spots during the movie:

-The "Pines or Rome" piece, with the whales is breathtaking. Yes, I admit I'm a lover of all sea-related things, so that could explain part of it. If the movie consisted of only this part, the only thing I could say about it would be: I want more!
-"Rhapsody in Blue" beautifully depicts a tale about dreams and how they come true. Enjoyed it a lot!

-Beethoven-driven opening and the closing animation of Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" are also amazing.

Really, the only bad thing about the movie is the fact that it's made of segments, most of which are of incredible beauty, which keep leaving you wanting more.

Movie Review: Simply delightful
Summary: 5 Stars

"Fantasia 2000" is the same concept as "Fantasia": a kind of animated MTV for classical music.

The movie tries to be more popular than the previous one, in terms of selecting recognizable music pieces (Symphony #5, Pomp and Circumstances, Rhapsody in Blue, etc...) as well as more segments with a "plot" (Donald as Noah's helper, the brave tin soldier, and other) and less subrealism, which apparently most of the public does not appreciates.

The movie is delightful for the ear and the eyes (see the fantastical segment of whales "swimming" in the air and up to the space).

A brief recommendation will be: if you liked the first one, buy "Fantasia 2000". If you hated the whole concept, probably you should rent this one before purchase.

Movie Review: A work of art
Summary: 5 Stars

Disney really out-did themselves on this one. I'm not one for repeat viewings of movies, but I've made an exception for this one. I saw it 3 times in the IMAX theater when it first came out, and I've already watched the DVD several times.

The musical selections represent an astounding mix of styles, and are superbly performed. They are outshone only by the animation, which displays incredible imagination, stunning technology and impeccable attention to detail. Even after many viewings, nothing is out-of-place.

And what a way for kids to appreciate the world's great music!

I was a little put off at first that some of the music has been rearranged a bit from the standard scores, I guess to tell a better animated story. This minor flaw is more than made up for, however.
