Movie Reviews of Fantasia 2000

Movie Review: THE Animated masterpiece!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't understand all of these one star reviews! I saw Fantasia 2000 in an IMAX theater when it first came out and I was knocked out! I grew up on all the animated Disney classics and this one is by far the most advanced artistically and creatively. With Fantasia 2000, Disney finally gives us an 'adult' production that is an excellent depiction of how far 'traditional' animation can go into scope, symbolism, expression, and stylistic ranges. There's something for everyone here, from the charming Tin Soldier to the Rebirth of the Firebird Suite. Some reviewers call this pretentious, but who cares! I like something that will make me think, nothing wrong with that.
The new Fantasia is better than the original, having recently watched them back to back. The original is great but slightly dated compared to it's sequal (or it's continuation). Mickey's segment is preserved in the 2000 version however. Fantasia is a work of art worthy of standing next to films the likes of 2001 Space Odyssey, Amadeus, Clockwork Orange, Godfather 1-2,or Lord of The Rings. Highly recommmended! Broaden your outlook, and grow up along with Disney studio's triumphant Fantasia 2000.

Movie Review: One of my favourites of all time!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great movie..but maybe that is only becuase I love classical music. Although, the music was changed(butchered) to met the needs of time, the compilement of the music was fantastic. Yes, I watched the original Fantasia when I was little and thought it was great, but that doesn't mean that we must compare the original to this one! Yes, the segments were shorter, but jeez, come on, some of those segments in the original Fantasia were a bit too long and easily forgetful...i.e. Stravinsky "rite of spring" and Beethovens "Pastoral symphony." These segments are great ways for children to see something fun, discover the beauty of classical music, and even have a tender parent-child conversation about. This movie was made for the children of today(not adults), not of yesteryear, so stop griping about it.
Personally my favourite segment is The Stedfast Tin Solider with Shostakovich's Piano Concerto 2, followed by Daisy and Donalds segment with Elgars Pomp and Circumstance..but they were all great!! As a person learning of the classical music genre, this film has helped me have points to jump off and do research and find music!

Movie Review: Fantastica
Summary: 5 Stars

To start with, if you do not appreciate classical music, I advice you go somewhere else. For those of you that do ppreciate classical musis, I suggest you read on. About 6 months ago, I discovered an extreme appreciation for classical music. The talent it took to compose classical songs are amazing. Absent are words, but present is the feeling that the composer had in order to compose their pieces. Now then, combine some of the greatest music ever, with some of the best animators, and that means only one thing: A Classic is Reborn. Music with feeling is combined with animation that has feeling. There really are no stories in Fantasia 2000, it's more of the artists sharing their feelings with songs that have touched them. Fantasia 2000 is perfect for its generation. The original Fantasia was released in Disney's early days. It exemlified early Disney. Fantasia 2000 is second generation Disney, post Little Mermaid. Fantasia 2000 shows off the talents of Disney's current staff. The flying whales is a perfect example. I reccomend this for anyone who wants a Disney classic. Can't go wrong with this one.

Movie Review: State-of-the-art Animation
Summary: 5 Stars

Surprisingly, this movie seems to have gone largely unnoticed. Critics of the wrap-around segments are being blind to the astounding animation pieces they introduce. For anyone who thinks they appreciate high-quality animation, or knows what it takes to achieve the work that has been done here, this is a must-see! Hats off to Roy Disney for masterminding this film. It would make Uncle Walt proud. If you are a musician, like myself, you can appreciate the excellent quality of the recordings, even in these abbreviated versions. If not, this is a great introduction to classical music. If you have a good surround-sound system for your DVD player, crank it up and let loose Stravinsky's "Firebird." WOW! Like the original "Fantasia," "Fantasia 2000" brings together the finest traditional animators with the latest technology to create a masterpiece. Like the original, it will probably be years before the masses wake up and notice that this film is extraordinary. See the IMAX version on the big screen if you have the opportunity.

Movie Review: Better than the original!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first saw "Fantasia", I loved about three of the segments. The rest of them were nothing short of boring. When I bought this DVD of "Fantasia 2000", I had high expectations from the previews, and figured it couldn't be that bad. I was right! This one is definitly my favorite, and I am glad to say that I own it! This one would rank number 2 among my favorite Disney films!

My favorite segments were: Pines of Rome (with the 3D whales. Wonderful!), Rhapsody in Blue (a story of New Yorkers in the late 30's. Touching.), Carnival of the Animals (what would happen if you gave a yo-yo to a flamingo? Find out in this hilarious short!), Piano Concerto #2 (The story of the Steadfast Tin Soldier), Pomp and Circumstance (featuring Donald Duck as Noah's assistant on the Ark), and finally The Sorceror's Apprentice (The old classic from the original starring Mickey Mouse). The first and last segments were just as intriguing, but those stuck out as my favorites!

Buy the DVD! You will be pleased! The special features were wonderful!
