Movie Reviews of Fantasia 2000Movie Review: Now THAT was a great experience (READ THIS) Summary: 5 Stars
A few years ago, I discovered the film "Fantasia" and I became a lover of it. On 3rd January, during a trip to Orlando, FLORIDA, I went to see "Fantasia 2000" in an Imax theater. I WAS COMPLETELY DAZZLED BY IT ! (if I could, I would put 6 or even 7 stars up there). The movie was WAY BETTER than what I expected. My only regret is that the film only lasts for 90 minutes, but it does not matter at all. My favourite pieces of music in the film are : Beethoven's "Symphony n°5" (an intstant familiarity, since I love that piece of music, and a very good start with the movie), Respighi's "Pines of Rome" (THE breath-taking sequence of the whole film, an extraordinary piece), Saint-säens' "The carnival of the animals" (the funniest sequence and a beautiful melody), Dukas' "The sorcerer's apprentice" (A classic. Everybody loves it, just like I do. It was really something seeing it on an Imax screen. Mickey Mouse is back) and Elgar's "Pomp & Circumstance" (The 2nd most breath-taking piece of music of the movie. The music was extremely magistic and what a good idea to have chosen it, whith all its reputation. Donald Duck has his best role in his whole career, now). As for the others, they are great too, don't worry ! I went to see it again in Paris and will see it once or twice more when it will be released in normal theaters, with my best friends. To conclude : you are strongly advised to go and see it with friends and family, you will all love it. Go ahead and enjoy...
Movie Review: Has anyone had enough of Leonard Maltin's negativity? Summary: 5 Stars
I am usually not on of those people that is harsh on critics. usually they do what i consider a decent job of enlightening the viewer or listener to what may be expected from a particular piece of art. Now, of course the arts are something vague and open to personal opinion, and personal taste. But something tells me that Leonard Maltin just likes to dislike. Instead of reviewing something objectively, he seems to get off on putting things down and finding fault with them. Throughout my life, I have watched him put down virtually every film that I, and most people I have met, enjoy very much. Such is the case with Fantasia 2000. Here was a wonderful film, almost flawless in every way, and yet he puts it down. Well, I've had enough. Just what does it take to become a critic anyway? Jeez, sign me up for that job. To just sit there and watch movies all day, and then say what i think of them. Well, I say to Leonard, go make your own darn movies if you think so many films have flaws. As far as I'm concerned, Fantasia 2000 is a wonderful film, and I don't think for a minute that the "novelty" of music and film has worn off. In fact, I feel it is quite the contrary, especially here in the digital age. Just what does he mean by novelty, anyway? I never considered it a "novelty". Jeez, if that's how he feels, I guess dance is a novelty, too? I know this was supposed to be a review of Fantasia, but I would love to see more movie viewers unite. Let's get rid of Leonard Maltin and his negative BS. Thank you.
Movie Review: Majestic Summary: 5 Stars
I was fortunate enough to see this at an IMAX theater. It was an amazing experience, to be surrounded by such wondrous music and imagery. The animation is of the highest quality, seamlessly blending modern and older styles. It will be interesting to see how the film plays out on a more intimate screen.Although some of the pieces stand out more than others, they all had charm. " The Pines of Rome" is the most popular segment, featuring lush computer animation of blue whales soaring through the arctic ice until they take off into the sky. Disney really did a job on this one, with just enough of a story to balance out the imagery. Clearly borrowing from the art of Charles Vess, "Firebird Suite" is a pretty fairy piece with a bit of fire and danger. "Rhapsody in Blue" is as close to perfect as you need to get, blending a great Gershwin tune with Al Hersfield's familiar style. And of course, one can never get enough yo-yoing flamingos. My personal favorite is "Pomp and Circumstance," as it made me hear a piece of music, and not just the background track to graduation ceremonies. It really took me by surprise, and this is always a good thing. I also really enjoyed the participation of Donald Duck, who is usually my least favorite Disney character. It is a very heart warming segment.
Movie Review: IN MY OPINION, THIS FANTASIA IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST Summary: 5 Stars
We own both the original Fantasia, AND 2000, and we all agree: FANTASIA 2000 IS OUR FAVORITE CHOICE! My 5 year old daughter couldn't even make it through the first Fantasia, because of the fact it's so long and drawn out. It quickly became boring to her! However, Fantasia 2000 holds her interest every time! In this masterpiece production, Disney has done a FANTASTIC job of melding classical music and animation - with a NEW twist this time; A LITTLE HELP FROM THE COMPUTER! I think everyone will have their "favorite piece" from this collection; mine happens to be the New York City scene done to Rhapsody In Blue. It's such a wonderful story - the end always leaves me with such a warm and happy feeling inside! My daughter's favorite piece is the one that answers the question: What happens when you give a flamingo a yo-yo? It's zany and silly and always leaves a smile on her face! I think Fantasia 2000 is the perfect way to introduce classical music to a young child. It also makes for the perfect family viewing experience, as everyone discusses what exactly THEY think is going on in the cartoon! In my opinion, Fantasia 2000 is a must for EVERY Disney collection. It's surely a DVD that you will enjoy viewing over and over again - and NEVER grow tired of!
Movie Review: "Fantasia 2000" A Modern Masterpiece Summary: 5 Stars
With the release of "Fantasia 2000" there has been a tendency for critics to compare it to the original 1940 classic. While this is inevitable, it is also not fair in some regards. It is important to realize that the 2 films are quite different and were made in different times. With that said, to be fair to this film, "Fantasia 2000" should be looked at independently and on its own merits."Fantasia 2000" is a modern masterpiece. It brilliantly matches beautiful classical music with fantastic animated imagery. Like the original, it is an artistic experience and is meant to be seen, heard and felt on a rich emotional level. I enjoyed all of the sequences, with Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite" and Gershwin's "Rapsody in Blue" being my favorites. "Fantasia 2000" was energetic, entertaining and very emotinal. On DVD, it is superb. Excellent sound and seemingly perfect images are nicely balanced with audio commentaries and a wonderful documentary. While not coming close to the subconcious level of the original "Fantasia," it is still an excellent film that deserves a masterpiece label of its own.
