Movie Reviews of Family Guy, Vol. 6Movie Review: Get your facts straight and learn to have a sense of humor about yourself. Summary: 5 Stars
"Seth is trying to rip us off! Why only 12 episodes?"
Here's the deal: I bought the first two volumes for about 40 dollars when they came out. I bought volume six for 25. What you get with the first two volumes are the episodes as they aired on TV. What you get with volume six are twelve episodes - the episodes as they were originally written and the television edits, both of which contain jokes not in the other edit.
You also get a ridiculous amount of other bonus features: just shy of 50 deleted scenes, the 100th episode special (which is hilarious), the Family Guy live feature, three animatic episodes which contain several differences from the final versions, commentaries on every single episode, and dozens of other extras and making of's. I spent the better part of a day watching the special features - there were VERY few special features on the early volumes.
I think paying 25 dollars for twelve episodes and a few HOURS of additional features is worth it, just as I think getting all episodes of season one or two with little extra scenes that got cut, commentaries on just a few episodes, etc. is worth 40.
If you're paying fourty dollars for this, you are getting ripped off.
"They aren't giving us the complete season!"
Keep in mind this is VOLUME Six - NOT SEASON Six. What is contained here is the last half of season five and the first half of season six. After listening to the commentary tracks, I'm lead to believe that the episodes being released like this is being done by someone above Seth & Co.
You're getting all the episodes. We'll get the last half of season six when Volume 7 is released. This isn't hard to understand.
"Why isn't Blue Harvest included? THEY'RE TRYING TO RIP US OFF!!!"
You knew it wouldn't be here. No one made you buy Volume Six.
The two Family Guy movies are movies and they are presented as such. Blue Harvest came with a decent amount of special features, and to cram it in here would have surely taken up another disc if the final edit, television edit, commentary track, and all the extras were to be included - thus bumping the set up about ten dollars, which is about how much you should be paying for Blue Harvest. So what's the point?
"I liked Family Guy, but then Seth made fun of Republicans/Bush/September 11th/The Simpsons/Christianity/my mom/whatever. It's too preachy!"
Because ALL great art should be safe, easy to understand, and should be able to be enjoyed by ALL people.
Get real, folks. Art is not about appealing to as many people as you possibly can. Saying something is too preachy usually means that your own beliefs are so weak and unstable that you feel threatened by others' beliefs.
I believe in practicing what you preach, supporting what you believe in, etc. but STOP TAKING YOURSELVES SO GOD DAMN SERIOUSLY. Learn to have a sense of humor about yourself and your beliefs. Family Guy has made several tasteless jokes, a few of which touch on personal issues for me, but I have a sense of humor about myself and can laugh at a good joke.
I know I've turned this into something other than a review. I like the show, I like Volume Six, but for God's sake - there is a lot if misinformation and stupidity in these reviews and someone needs to say something.
Movie Review: Volume 6 is solid Summary: 5 Stars
Family Guy volume six is probably my least favorite....but it is still great.
In volume six you have the opener "No Meals On Wheels" an excellent episode where Peter opens a restaurant and is unhappy about Joe and his wheelchair-bound friends constantly patronizing the place....it features the Elton John song "That's why they call it the blues" in it to celebrate Elton John's 60th birthday when it aired on 3/25/07.
It also marks the milestone of Family Guy's 100th episode "Stewie Kills Lois" in addition to the continuing episode "Lois Kills Stewie".....both excellent episodes.
"It Takes A Village Idiot..and I Married One", "Meet The Quagmires" and "Believe It Or Not,Joe's Walking On Air" are "stand-out" episodes.
Disappointing episodes...in my opinion...are "No Chris Left Behind" and "Padre de Familia" .....however no deduction in stars because of the bonus scenes and deleted scenes in this volume.
This is "new" Family Guy era.....obviously....and if you're wondering, the "new" era began in the middle of volume 4.
The humor and writing style is more glib, the flashbacks and cutaways are a little more "off the wall",different voices, and some new characters that the creators are experimenting with to possibly reoccur (they need to get rid of the Hispanic maid) .....so if you expecting the same style of humor from Season 1,2 or 3...you'll be disappointed.
Pretty good overall....it's Family Guy!!
Movie Review: Still one of the best shows on TV Summary: 5 Stars
I don't watch much TV these days; I haven't since "Seinfeld" went off the air, and to be honest, I really stopped caring before that. "Family Guy" is the one exception I make. My friends and family got me hooked on it; I watched the DVD's while going through a rough time. The constant laughs helped me smile when I was down. I was glad that there was finally a show that didn't try to make me think too much, that didn't try to make me a better person.
Well, "Family Guy" has changed a bit, become a bit more political. It's still funny as hell, though I often find myself frowning after I laugh. Still...the show is one of the smartest (or dumbest; is there really much of a difference?) out there; the humor is quick, with the jokes that fall flat making the ones that hit all the funnier.
I guess I should mention how the marketing for the show...sucks? Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. Oh well. We're still buying it, aren't we? Whatever they're doing, it's working. And you know what? It's worth it. "Family Guy" is sharp, poignant, offensive...a classic.
Movie Review: Nice... so very nice! Summary: 5 Stars
To all those who think Family Guy isn't funny anymore, or to all those who never got the show in the first place, in other words to all the critics, just know that die-hard fans from the beginning are still watching and liking that. As long as you're OK with the concept of 22-minute successions of un-PC gags as I am myself, I don't see how you'd think this season constitutes any decrease in the show's quality. They're the same good old Griffins from before, c'mon. Just because some other animation shows have started to blow after about 6 seasons, doesn't mean it is mandatory and this must happen to Family Guy! Oh and 25 dollars a piece is not a rip-off for a 13-episodes 3-DVDs set. Especially when your home currency is euro. ;-) I love America, I love Family Guy (could almost be a slogan here)!
Movie Review: Great DVD! Summary: 5 Stars
Awesome DVD! I am very satisfied with this item. This one has possibly the best boxart out of all the family guy DVDs. Also, there are so many special features. Commentary on every episode, 49 deleted scenes, animatics, the 100th episode special where Seth MacFarlane interviews people about the show. There are also many more features! Also on this perfect box set is the epic two-part episode "Stewie Kills Lois" and "Lois Kills Stewie". Great episodes. I know a lot of people complain how they don't release full seasons any more, and I have mixed feelings about that. Although I would love to see a full season released, I don' really give two shrimps. I will always buy every dvd of Family Guy even if they only release 5 episodes in a 3 disc set. I love this item and I highly recommend it.
