Movie Reviews of Fairy Tale - A True StoryMovie Review: Surprisingly great movie! Summary: 5 Stars
I was not expecting much at all from this movie but purchased it anyway because of the fact that it was a movie about fairies. It was a surprisingly great movie!
I expected a low budget movie with low grade special effects but wow was i wrong. It was very well written and directed and the effects were very cleverly done as well. The fairies were depicted in a way that left their mysteries intact but yet revealed enough of their inner nature to satisfy everyone. This movie is just as watchable by adults as it is by children.
This movie also drove home a belief i have that the faey are everywhere all around us and that children can usually see them because they have a certain detachment to the world of responsibility and materialism that consumes most adults currently. Just by opening your mind and heart and reconnecting with nature and the innocent child within us all, we can then all learn to see these amazing forms of life that are everywhere around us.
This is a must see movie for any fairy lovers!
Movie Review: A Treasure! Summary: 5 Stars
I've seen this movie four times with my seven and four year old. The story is a little boring for the four year old because it is truly a story and not a bunch of cheap special effects.
I get tears in my eyes every time I watch it. Last night we watched it with my kids and a nine year old girl and she thought it was extraordinary. From the beautiful scenary, inspring music, to the wonderful acting, this is a must for everyone...especially girls.
The story has such depth. Death, acceptance, grief, hope and inspiration. Even though these are sometimes difficult subjects for young children it is done is such a powerful and uplifting way that my very sensitive seven year old went through the house tilting pictures (because that's what happens when Fairies land on them) all over my house.
Out of the dozens of kids movies I've bought this is the only one I like to see over and over again and expect to for a long time to come.
Movie Review: Great for both parents and kids! Summary: 5 Stars
Based upon a true story, this is one of the few films that will both hold the attention of adults and the kids will love it as well.
During the early 20th Century, two little girl cousins who are brought together to live in the scenic English coutryside both believe in faeries. Why? Because they've seen them!!!
After the girls manage a photograph of the faeries at a nearby waterfall, the photos are proclaimed genuine by experts and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes author and occultist) and Harry Houdini travel to the girls' home to investigate further.
Naturally, there's an evil reporter who wants to exploit the situation but the faeries (as well as a "dead" brother to one of the girls) deal with him pretty effectively and hilariously.
You'd have to be a real Grinch to not love this unique and well-executed film. The cinematography is superb -- my highest recommendation!
Movie Review: Enchanting, very well done. Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this movie! A classic in every sense.
I first learned of this story while studying the history of photography in college. The story is true, except, well- you know. While by today's standards we would not be fooled by the photos taken by the girls, the healing impact this news event had on society back then after the horrors of WWI and the peoples' willingness to believe it are understandable and wonderful.
It's a lovely looking film with special effects that are convincingly real and made me wish they were. :-D
It is perfectly cast and perfectly acted. The girls are adorable. All characters are well expressed, including the parents, and the stories within the story are so very real and touching too, perfectly woven together.
This is a movie for everyone, no matter their age.
Gather your loved ones around you and ENJOY this movie together!
Movie Review: An Extraordinary Charmer Summary: 5 Stars
A five-year old girl was to be my guest for dinner (along with her parents), and I wanted to have something she could entertain herself with while the adults talked. With the advice of a store clerk, I rented five or six different titles suitable for young children. Without a moment's hesitation, my young guest selected this film from my pile. She was right on. We all watched it together, entranced. It is the most tasteful, convincing, and interesting piece of fantasy I have ever seen on film. With a rich subtext of questions about faith, illusion, and a society in crisis, a marvellous cast (Harvey Keitel as Harry Houdini! Peter O'Toole as Arthur Conan Doyle!), and special effects that seem as natural as the fine actors in their Yorkshire settings, this is a gem. No, I don't believe in fairies. But I can allow myself to be transported into a world of illusion, beauty, hope, and magic.
