Movie Review: An All Too Plausible Take On Conspiracy And The Assassination Of JFK
Summary: 5 Stars

Nearly twenty years before Oliver Stone shocked audiences with JFK, Executive Action brought a conspiracy to kill JFK to life. But instead of presenting a stylish and flashy presentation that shows an ever evolving conspiracy as JFK did, Executive Action is a low-budget documentary style presentation that shows not an evolving conspiracy theory, but how such a conspiracy might have happened. The end result might not be a cinematic masterpiece but it is an all-too plausible conspiracy theory.

Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan play the men behind the plot. Admittedly this is not the best film of their respective careers, they both give strong performances. Their characters don't have much depth but as the men responsible for plotting the murder of the President, it seems rightly that they aren't overly emotional but rather amoral men with a singular purpose in mind. The only one of the conspirators who shows any real emotion about killing the President is William Greer whose character is the man financing the attempt. For much of the film he debates whether to kill JFK or not and part of the film's tension is whether he'll do it or not.

The star of the film isn't the actors of course. The real star of Executive Action is its script and documentary style of the filming. From the very beginning when we see shooters in the desert practicing the assassination to the framing of Lee Harvey Oswald with a double and altered pictures, to the meetings of the plotters and right down to the assassination and its aftermath the film never loses its documentary style. The filmmakers choose not to be sensational with the material (as Oliver Stone did with JFK) and by showing it "as it might have happened" (to quote the film itself) the filmmakers make a good case for a conspiracy in the assassination. The fault of the documentary style is in the large amount of use of documentary footage. This serves to throw the viewer out of the film but constantly shifting from 35mm film to handheld footage of the assassination and motorcade during the assassination sequence and a chilling practice run. But outside of the fault of overusing the documentary footage the style works well.

The main fault of the DVD release is a lack of special features. Outside of a making of feature from the time the film was made and trailers from several other films Lancaster was in, there are no special features to speak of. A retrospective documentary or audio commentary would have been nice. But this is a case where the film is the star of the DVD.

Executive Action is not a cinematic masterpiece by any means. But it is an intriguing, thought provoking, documentary approach to the conspiracy angle of the JFK assassination. More persuasive then Oliver Stone's JFK, Executive Action is the most realistic fictional depiction of the assassination of JFK made to date. Not to be missed by anyone interested in the assassination, no matter which side of the issue you might be on.

Movie Review: Closer To The Truth Then You Think!
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw this film in 1973 when it was released on the one of the new fledgling Cable Channels------It packs a powerful message--------It only played in a few theaters and also was scheduled for a Sunday Night Movie on one of the Networks when it was suddenly pulled from broadcast without any reason being given-----That is how worrisome it was at the time----See it and compare it to the over-long JFK--------I consider myself a Conservative, but was very moved by this film's about your Political beliefs and watch with an open mind--------For those of us who lived through this terrible time in our history, the truth will probably never be known----but for me, this comes very close to what might have actually happened-----The Kennedys had made many enemies during JFK's short time in office, including Organized Crime, Big Business, the Military etc etc-----and in a speech in May 1963 at one of the Ivy League Colleges, which is shown in this film, Kennedy said that by Christmas of that year, 1963, he would be withdrawing the bulk of our troops from Vietnam------Well worth a view----that is if you have an open mind-----sasheegm2

Movie Review: Probably the best film made about the Coup D ' eta
Summary: 5 Stars

Hands down most to the point film about the Coup D Eta. We know JFK was struck in the neck and temple. Therefore, we know Mr. Oswald was framed. The film does an excellent job portraying the framing of Lee Oswald. We also know it is being covered up to this day. Therefore, we know it had to an "inside job" since the Secret Service was ordered not protect the President that day. It was a classic Coup where the "Kings Men" or palace guard abandon their post so to speak. From the Zapruder film we can see the driver slow down and he and the other agent in the front seat just turn and watch for six seconds until Kennedy is good and dead. Excellent scene in Executive Action about the route change and the communication blackout immediately after the slaying. You won't be able to sleep nights knowing for some reason it was in the best interests of our government , at that time, to kill its own President.

Movie Review: I've Searched For Years For This Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw 'Executive Action' when it first came out in 1973, and it has stuck with me all these years. It was gone from the theaters pretty fast, and I thought maybe it was "pulled" because of the truth it revealed. So when I stumbled upon it at Amazon, I almost jumped out of my chair.
The part that really stayed with me is at the end when words scroll up listing the odds put out by Lloyd's of London. It's like a trillion to one that all the real people involved in the murder of JFK would meet untimely deaths. It's shocking and something you have to see for yourself.
EA was lost, but now it's found!! Thank you, Amazon. I just purchased it and it will go into my JFK collection..safe and sound.

Movie Review: great kennedy film
Summary: 5 Stars

this was a great film of a very special gendre. i liked watching the old masters at work. when kennedy (jfk)was shot i was watching him visit dallas when he was shot the original film was quickly changed( edited) right in front of my eyes. people did not point to school book depository, rather to man running on overpass chased by cop. first true shot of grassy knoll showed legs & small smoke next shot of same showed knoll fog. so i don't know who was behind it all but at those moments i saw history changed & i began to be a fan of conspiracy movies & conspiracies that changed the world with caesar, christ, lincoln. booth did not act alone others were hung.finian assassin in canada did not act alone, either
