Great movie. They really enhanced this over the old VHS tape I had. I loved this movie back then, and I love it even more now. Colors were great and so were the details.

Movie Review: Sci-Fi Thriller
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great flick. Good action, sci-fi horror, and
acting. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: The spookiest idea since Exorcist, great model space ships rather than cgi, a few goofy scenes, and a great cast
Summary: 4 Stars

Event Horizon is an awesome sci-fi horror film by Paul W.S. Anderson, who makes fun movies. I loved the prensentations in Event Horizon, and the sets were some of the best I've ever seen; honestly go check out the reactor on this BD, and see the incredibly spooky details on the core! It is worth pausing and exploring like some runes on an ancient tablet with secrets for you to discover. This well paced, highly creative, and horrifying movie is one of my guilty pleasures!

Paul W.S. Anderson also knows what works and what people generally expect. The science is very interesting, and I enjoyed the matter-of-fact explanations given by Sam Neills character Dr. William Weir. It was like sitting in on a very interesting lecture. And the movie perfectily sets up the horror that comes. Usually dreams scares are pretty annoying, but they help unnerve you to the feeling of having your fears probed.

What you see, is horrifying sometimes, but what is hinted at, is more frightening in Event Horizon. Justin is abducted behind blackness and returns in some terror state. His eyes frozen with horror that is more terrible than any word can describe. "Hell is only a word." Dr. Weir says. Perhaps the last words of truth that you will hear from Dr. Weir, who is possessed by an exorcist.

Laurence Fishburne plays captain Miller with a commanding, no nonsense, presence. He is the strongest character in a movie that uses its actors to the best of their capabilities. Event Horizon is Alien-like, concentrating on a select group of people and becoming personal with them and making them interesting. The crew is on edge from the start, and lonely, although they are friendly with each other, because they miss their families on earth. Event Horizon is not placed in a some far away time, but only a few decades ahead. With technology that is usefull, and practical, but not StarTrek-like. Earth is talked about warmly, but always feels far away. When you hear the blood curtling screams from hell you are even more scared because you feel just as alone as the crew who are as far away as the eigth planet Neptune.

Event Horizon is a spectacularly scary movie with the perfect set up. It does not deliver a tantalizing ending that will last forever in your mind, but the scare of this movie is the journey there. It is the rare movie that I can ignore an ending that feels rushed and incomplete because the movie is so good in every other way. And really, the ending is not that bad even with the time restrictions and appaling dream shocker. There are tons of extra's and my favorite is the director commentary and also a vision of the film segment that was never before seen. A cult classic that is too spooky to not buy!
