Movie Reviews of Eureka Seven, Volume 12 (Episodes 47-50)

Movie Review: An amazing series
Summary: 5 Stars

Eureka Seven is one of the most remarkable coming-of-age sagas in any medium.

Renton Thurston's painful journey from bratty teenager to confident young man is brilliantly told in the format of a rousing adventure story and a highly unusual romance. Just who *is* the pale, quiet girl whose only name is "Eureka?" Renton's odyssey to find out leads him across the world and beyond in the most remarkable anime series I've ever seen.

Eureka Seven's unique world is slowly revealed as Renton impulsively joins Gekkostate, the highly individualistic crew of the renegade airship Gekko-go. But only gradually does he come to realize that Gekkostate is much more than a band of eccentric pirates. As they run from their own shocking past toward a future in which the existence of the entire planet is on the line, Renton is forced to grow up fast -- and bring Eureka along with him -- if humanity is to survive.

If you're new to anime, Eureka Seven can hardly be surpassed as an introduction to the best of the genre. And even if you're already an anime fan, you won't find better writing or more subtle plotting, or a more richly-detailed background for a powerful story, than this. But be warned, when it's over you'll be saying that fifty episodes isn't nearly enough. Highest recommendation.

Summary of Eureka Seven, Volume 12 (Episodes 47-50)

Deep within the Scub Coral Command Center Renton is reunited with his long lost sister Diane. In a vast and mysterious library the origins of the Scub Coral and the history of mankind are revealed. Learning from the follies of the past can the two races create a future united? Dewey stands before the final precipices of his mad plan prepared to destroy a world he has judged as beyond redemption. Using the suborbital super Weapon Oratorio #8 a hole is driven through the crust of the very world and Anemone is dispatched on one final mission. As The End descends upon the Command Cluster Dominic follows through the rapidly closing hole in a desperate attempt to save not only the world but the girl he loves.System Requirements:Running Time: 100 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:?ANIMATION/ANIME Rating:?PG-13 UPC:?669198208119 Manufacturer No:?20811
The adventure 14-year-old Renton Thurston began when he flew the Nervash Type Zero mecha and joined the crew of the Gekkostate come to a belated conclusion. The filmmakers have so many plot points to sort out, they resort to extended Morris-the-Explainer scenes: when Renton encounters his long-lost sister in Episode #47, she spends nearly 15 minutes filling in the back story. While she's bringing Renton up to speed, Colonel Dewey launches his campaign to annihiliate the Scub Corals, even it means destroying the universe. Renton, Eureka, her adopted kids, Dominic, Anemone, and Holland join in the climactic battle to prevent the destruction of the cosmos and create inter-species understanding. Director Tomoki Kyoda pulls out all the stops, unleashing some beautiful, prismatic special effects. The eye candy helps to balance the exposition, but Eureka Seven was more entertaining in its first season, when the story focused on Renton's efforts to establish his identity as a crew member on the Gekkostate.
