Movie Review: The best of the Ernest series!
Summary: 4 Stars
"Ernest Goes to Jail" is easily the greatest of the Ernest series and a classic in it's own right. Jim Varney was one of the most talented and sadly, underrated, comedic actors in the history of film. See why in this movie. It's a comedic gem.I just wish Disney spent the time and money to give the DVD release the justice it deserves. How soon they forget that this film tripled it's production budget at the box office. So what gives? The film transfer is bad (granted it's still much better than watching it on VHS), it's not widescreen, and finally, there are absolutely no special features. The only positive thing about this DVD is the audio quality.
In conclusion, "Ernest Goes to Jail" is certainly Jim Varney's masterpiece, but Touchtone Pictures should be ashamed for not giving this film the quality DVD treatment it deserves.

Ever since I was a kid, I saw five Ernest movies: Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Saves Christmas, Ernest Goes to Jail, Ernest Scared Stupid, and Ernest Rides Again. They were silly, but they were good fun. Ernest Goes to Jail, I think, is the most interesting one of them all. I mean, he's in JAIL. Ernest P. Worrell.....IN JAIL! If that's not funny enough, then I have no idea what else is. Now granted, this is a low budget movie so they're bound to be some cheap-looking sets (and weird-looking hairdos). But the premise is fascinating, the slapstick is funny, and Ernest is as likable as ever. It's silly and it's fun.Movie Review: THE BEST OF THE ERNEST MOVIES, HANDS DOWN

THEN, ERNEST, WHOSE LOOKS ARE MISTAKEN FOR THAT OF NASH'S, IS SENT TO DEATH ROW AND NOW HE MUST FIND A WAY TO CLEAR HIS NAME BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. THIS WAS ULTIMATELY THE BEST ERNEST MOVIE OF THEM ALL. THIS WAS THE FUNNIEST AND THE MOST ENTERTAINING ONE. I ACTUALLY WOULDN'T MIND BUYING THIS ONE. Make no mistake, Jim Varney perfected the art of slapstick, and this movie has some scenes that are just downright funny. My daughter likes to watch this movie, and as many times as I have seen some of these scenes, I still laugh out loud. The 2 scenes where Ernest gets electrocuted and becomes magnetic are among Ernest's all-time best, and don't miss the episode with ink leaking from a pen he had in his mouth while on jury duty. this is one of the best ernest movies ever. This ones about a lawyers client switches ernest withk a look alike prisoner (Nash) while ernest is serving jury duty. ernest has many tricks to try to escape. but he has to act like a prisioner to keep his love one alive. This dvd is very poor however, no special features, or theatrical trailers. you cant watch it in widescreen? dont buy this if you dont already have the vhs. but it is a hilarious movie
