Movie Reviews of Ernest Goes to JailMovie Review: My very favorite Ernest movie Summary: 5 Stars
Ernest Goes to Jail in my opinion is the best Ernest movie out there cause it has more of a adult comedy feel to it than the rest of the Ernest movies, well anyway this movie is about Ernest P. Worrell who is a janitor at a bank but he wants to be a clerk but Ernest's boss Mr. Pendlesmythe won't give him the job and Ernest's co-worker/girlfriend Charlotte helps back Ernest up, meanwhile Jim Varney has another role in this movie as 'Nash' who is a cold hearted prisoner that is on deathrow and Nash's cellmate Rubin kills a fellow inmate while trying to escape. Meanwhile Ernest is on jury duty for the crime and there's a hilarious scene when Ernest was chewing on his pen and the ink comes out and while he was trying to wipe the ink off, the judge askes Ernest "Excuse me sir, are you all right?" "Just Fine, Thank You." And Rubin realizes that Ernest looks exactly like Nash and the trial resumes at the scene of the crime and before you know it, the switch is on meaning Nash and his other cellmate Lyle beat him up and changed each other's clothes meaning Nash walks away with the jury duty and Ernest is now a prisoner and it takes a while for him to realize that he's in />The scenes with Ernest and the head guard are hilarious, meanwhile Rubin was acquitted with the murder charges and is going to finish his previous sentence and Nash is living Ernest's life, and Rubin tells Ernest that he has to be Nash or else. Later on in the movie Ernest later realizes that he's on deathrow and Nash is attempting to rob the bank and kidnaps the two security guards and Charlotte. Will Ernest get out of deathrow alive, will Ernest finally get out of jail. In order to find out, watch this movie cause it's a classic, even if you're not a diehard fan of the Ernest movies but love comedies, then you should give this movie a try. But the DVD version is no different than the VHS and it would be perfect if it had deleted scenes, a theatrical trailer and movie previews. But overall watch this movie.
Movie Review: IF KIDS VOTED ON THE MAJOR FILM AWARDS 'ERNEST GOES TO JAIL' WOULD HAVE WON MANY AWARDS Summary: 5 Stars
IN A NUTSHELL: CREATED FOR PRE-ADOLESCENT KIDS THIS IS CLEAN COMEDY WITH PATHOS!
I saw this film when it was first released in 1990 and it was my first exposure to the world of 'Ernest'. Although I was already a mature adult, I found this film most compelling from the very first scene. To my surprise, the script is surprisingly detailed and the comedy came without profanity, overt violence or sex. In short, this is a film I could watch with my young children [at the time] or elderly mother without feeling uncomfortable about what was being shown and said on the screen.
WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT: WHAT IS ANY 'ERNEST' FILM ABOUT?
Ernest somehow manages to turn jury duty into a dead-end -- literally. Somehow he is spirited away during the trial and exchanged for a death-row dead-ringer of himself. Ernest must somehow survive an execution and save his friends on the outside from his evil look-alike, Mr. Felix Nash, who's criminal plans include the liquidation of all of Ernest's friends. Jim Varney plays both parts with the aplomb that only Ernest could carry off.
Jim Varney - Mr. Nash / Ernest P. Worrell
Gailard Sartain - Chuck
Bill Byrge - Bobby
Barbara Bush - Charlotte Sparrow
Barry Scott - Rubin Bartlett
Randall "Tex" Cobb - Lyle
Dan Leegant - Oscar Pendlesmythe
Charles Napier - Warden
Jim Conrad - Eddie
Jackie Welch - Judge
ABOUT THE DVD:
Frankly, this DVD is in full-frame and does not play as well as I would have expected. Also, there are NO FEATURES whatsoever, unless you consider close-captioning a Special Feature. That is a real shame because like most of Jim Varney's fans I am anxious to discover whatever I can about the world of 'Ernest' and his films.
Movie Review: We really enjoyed this movie! Summary: 5 Stars
When Ernest P. Worrell is called for jury duty, he responds with more enthusiasm than intelligence. However, there is someone behind the scenes who has enough intelligence for both, criminal mastermind Felix Nash, and he intends to slip out of prison by changing places with Ernest. Now, it is up to Ernest to stop the even Nash, and protect his beloved bank. It will take all of Ernest's intelligence...and a LOT of luck to succeed.
I must say, I was really surprised by this movie. I got it not expecting much from the movie, but I ended up really enjoying it. The late Jim Varney did a great job as Ernest, as you might expect, but he also did a great job of playing a villain. My family and I really enjoyed this movie, and we don't hesitate to recommend it to you!
Movie Review: The importance of being Ernest Summary: 5 Stars
Jim Varney made a series of films based on his milk commercial character "Ernest". This series of "Ernest" movies is mostly slapstick humor with some Varney faces and resembles a live cartoon. This is considered one of the best of the series.
In this movie Jim Varney plays a double role as a hardened convict and an aspiring bank janitor. Due to extenuating circumstances they trade places. And his faithful dog (Rimshot) is canned. Now before you recoil I mean the canine is restrained from exposing the imposter by being restrained in a trash can. Will Ernest be able to save the dog or is it all over?
Ernest Scared Stupid
Movie Review: Ernest At His Best Summary: 5 Stars
As another Ernest movie is produced and brought out to the public it would seem that all the Ernest movies that have come out over the years that the funniness of each movie would start to lose its luster. Well it doesn't in this film, the same old jokes were still funny and the new situational humor makes the film even funnier as we keep up With the wacky weirdo Ernest in "Ernest Goes To Jail". A must see comedy film that is a must see for any age and people. I suggest this film to anyone who is in the mood for a good laugh and slapstick. This movie is one of my favorite Ernest movies.
