Movie Reviews of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the RoomMovie Review: An Eye-Opener! Summary: 5 StarsI watched this DVD last night and was astounded at how blatantly Ken Lay, Jeff Skilling and Andy Fastow let their greed take over their lives. And then all three had the audacity to lie about what they were doing and how well the Enron was allegedly doing. They didn't give two hoots about their shareholders, their employees or their country. Too bad they weren't as ashamed as the one guy who committed suicide.
To make matters worse, their accountants and several investment banks bought into their fraud and lied as well. The worst news was that the Bush family helped Ken Lay set up the deregulation of natural gas so Lay could do his dirty deed in California.
Don't miss this one!
Movie Review: Excellent insight into scandal Summary: 4 StarsThis documentary really opened my eyes to how scandalous the whole Enron affair really was. Presented in a very quick-paced, entertaining fashion, this is a must-see documentary for anyone interested in corporate mishaps, scandals, and faux pas.
Movie Review: Don't Order This Video... Summary: 5 Stars...if you are someone who does an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. Your blood pressure will never be the same after you get an inside look at the work-a-day world of the arrogant psychopaths that run parts of Corporate America and by extension, the current White House.
Movie Review: Get the right message Summary: 5 StarsThe knee-jerk reaction to watching this documentary might be to immediately pull all your retirement money and stuff it under your mattress then calling your congressman and demanding more regulation. Neither reaction would be wise nor would they be effective. The root message is not that deregulation is bad, the root issue is greed and greed is no less prevalent in the government that would seek to regulate business than it is in the business themselves - in fact, history would seem to support the notion that we have far more to fear from governments than from businesses or free markets. Regulating business with government control is not a solution any more than hiding your money under your mattress. Republicans, Democrats, and yes, even Libertarians are just as greedy as business leaders - giving them control is no safer than letting the market control itself.
A better lesson to learn is that stated by a former Enron employee at the end of the movie when he suggested Enron's own motto - "ask why?" Be a wise investor and know the company in which you are investing. If you cannot understand how they make their money it does not necessarily mean you are too stupid to understand - it might just be you understand even better than they. Be a wise citizen as well and note how money influences your representatives - do not assume their rhetoric is entirely accurate but ask them difficult questions until you understand the issues. Do not respond with fear, respond with seeking understanding instead.
An excellent documentary that makes you think and makes you ask, "why? " You will want to see this.
Movie Review: Amazingly Engrossing Summary: 5 StarsFrom the time this documentary starts you are captured. I have never been so engrossed in a story about Corporate America before. The arrogance of business and the manipulation for self gain was astounding. Awesome how the unravelling began with one simple question. I have watched this now several times and I never cease to be amazed. A "must" to watch.
