Movie Reviews of Enemy of the State

Movie Review: Premonitive "Easter Egg" Makes This Great Flick Scarier Now Than Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, the "Egg:" Watch closely when they flash Brill's info on the screen during the database search right after Dean's "phone call" so heavily alluded to in the previews. No joke, the dude's birthday is 9/11. I almost fell out of my chair.

If you haven't seen Enemy of the State yet, please do. It's a wonderfully done conspiracy/chase thriller with stellar acting from Hackman and Smith, a perfectly tuned score, and morose, paranoid overtones that enhance the work as a whole.

If you have seen it and you're just camping reviews to make sure nobody craps all over your fave flick, watch it again and pause when Brill's ID comes up on the screen.

Somebody please tell me I'm seeing things. Because the film's subject matter makes the coincidence a creepy one.

Movie Review: If You Are Paranoid for a Good Reason, You're not Really Paranoid
Summary: 5 Stars

Just watched this again after over six years since my last viewing. This film was a bit ahead of its time, since today our society has a plethora of the personal media and wireless devices we all use daily; today the stage is better set for the paranoid to be right once in a while inasmuch as we have so many more communication gadgets.

Smith was good, the action better than average, Hackman was excellent, and the spy-van guys were fun (Green, Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy, etc., -- not approaching the X-Files' crew, but still a entertaining garland).

This movie may have its flaws, but for most it is a good show with lots of thrills and it will not leave you disapointed on a Movie night.

Movie Review: great great movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Definately one of the best spy movies I have seen in a long time.
From the murder at the start to the resturant scene at the end this is a great modern day spy story. Whether you take the gadgets seriousely or not is up to you, remember, it is just a movie. My only complaint is that Will Smith is way out of his league in this one, he just cannot hold it in a serious movie. Hackman who does not appear until almost half way thru the movie steals the show and shows what a class act he is. Will smith should stick to the goofy parts he has played before like MIB or wild wild west, not the serious movies The scenery and tech stuff is all well done and one worth owning, so BUY THIS ONE

Movie Review: RANKS UP THERE WITH "THE MATRIX"
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the most paranoia-fying movie I have ever seen, aside from The Matrix, The Sixth Sense, and Dark City. To think, no, to KNOW, that the NSA, CIA, FBI, or any other more of "them" could be, would be, and often ARE watching you is an extremely paranoid thought. I love Will Smith, he is a great actor, and this is his best performance yet. This is my first Gene Hackman movie, and I love him even more than Will Smith! John Voight is one of my most favorite actors to date, also. Like they say on the cover of the box: It's not paranoia when the're really after you. Some of my friends think I'm paranoid, but I guess that's because they haven't seen this movie yet...

Movie Review: Surprising.. intelligence in a Bruckheimer film!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one film which uses modern technology in one of the most useful ways. The main draw of the film other than the excellent, all-star cast (Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Gabriel Byrne..) is the clever use of editing and camera technology to draw suspense and awe to a viewer. Smith's paranoid performance is the best of his career (hated him in ID4 and MiB) and Gene Hackman (good guy finally) basically reprises his character from The Conversation in his best performance of all his seemingly endless action-thrillers. I think this is Jerry Bruckheimer's best film yet.. intelligent, witty, suspenseful, well-acted, well-directed, polished.
