If you like the oldies, you will like this movie. It is a drama centered in the days when indigent men traveled the rail lines across the states. Ernie Borgnine plays his usual bad guy and Lee Marvin is the hero, if you can call him that. Good story.Movie Review: fun day at work

I have never seen this movie before buying the DVD. I purchased it because I am a train fanatic and read that this was a real railfan classic.
It's an ok movie, nothing to get too excited about. The best part to me, was the first ten minutes or so with the footage of the locomotive and freight cars.
If this is an accurate portrayal of hobo life during the great depression, then you were probably better off just not traveling. It appears that murder on the trains was legal back then. I don't know if this was true or not but Ernest Borgnine's character should be in prison and not captaining a train.
To be sure, there were some suspenseful moments, such as the younger hobo hanging from the bridge under the train.
It's a violent movie just to warn you.
I've seen better train movies (Taking of the Pelham 1-2-3, Runaway Train, just to name two).
Ok, at least I have seen it. I doubt I will watch it again.
And one more thing - My disc had a bad skpping / freezing problem somewhere in the middle. It just isn't worth my time to send it back, blah blah blah.
