Movie Review: Two sides to a coin

In response to the reviewer who said this film was anti christian and to pass on this trash. I would like to say that this film represents a view of some peoples distasteful view of religion , but sure not all people feel this way. Un fortunately in this world, their are people who use religion to exploit and manipulte people- This is just a fact of life- Then there are people who see the true beauty in religion and and utililze it to help people obtain a higher good - Unlike this reviewer, I would suggest you do not pass on this trash! Burt Lancaster, Burt Lancaster, Burt Lancaster--bringing his genius to the role of Elmer Gantry as no one else in Hollywood could. A master at the art being a silver-tongued devil on the silver screen, if there ever were one. All of the players are right on in their characterizations, but Burt is over the top and we are mesmerised by him. A great study in revival religion and what has now become the electronic church. I'd avoided this movie for decades and I'm kicking myself for not watching it sooner. It's brilliant and amazingly relevant for today. The script is great, the performances are first-rate and Burt Lancaster is mesmerizing. I couldn't take my eyes off him. And I think I re-wound my Tivo 10 times to keep re-watching the early scene when he walks into the African American church and sings. Please watch this movie. Great performances by all; passed it around to several friends - even though they saw it years ago. One od my friends never saw it and was thrilled. A definite classic in "taking religion on the road"...
