Movie Reviews of Elf (Infinifilm Edition)

Movie Review: Very funny family Christmas movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I just watched my DVD of Elf last night. We started out watching it as a family (my two kids, three and 18 months, my fiancé and I) but ended up taking it to another room so the kids could watch Jimmy Neutron on Nickelodeon instead. They were just too young to get interested. That said, I thought this movie was very funny! I loved Will Ferrell's acting in this movie. He played the role of Buddy so well! And Zooey Deschanel has a beautiful singing voice. I also thought Buddy's supervisor at Gimble's was really funny. It was also nice to see Mary Steeburgen in another holiday film, as her `One Magic Christmas' from 1985 will always be one of my favorite Christmas movies from my childhood.

On to something else: The story was slightly predictable, but it was played out so well that I didn't even mind. I thought the scenes in Central Park where the police are chasing Santa dragged a little, but that wasn't so bad either. Overall, I definitely recommend this movie for families to enjoy at Christmastime.

Movie Review: Light, Sweet, Hilarious!
Summary: 5 Stars

In a world filled with elf and Santa Claus movies, this one definitely stands out from the crowd. The movie is about a human baby who accidentally crawls into Santa's sack on one fateful Christmas day, and consequently is transported to the north pole to live among cheerful, happy, Christmas-adoring elves. And like all good adopted kids in the movies, Buddy wants to meet his biological father and sets out to find him in the most un-north pole like city, New York.

Will Ferrell is perfect for this role. He is endearing as the innocent and vulnerable Buddy. You can't help but adore him. As a critical movie watcher, I sometimes imagine certain characters with different actors, but I really can't imagine anyone else playing Buddy but Will Ferrell.
The supporting actors were all very well casted as well. They all perfectly complemented Buddy's over-the-top persona.

Jon Favreau has done it marvellously. This film is light, sweet, and hilarious! A great holiday fun!

Movie Review: Outstanding
Summary: 5 Stars

Elf is simply one of the best holiday movies EVER. I put this one right up there with A Christmas Story, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the very programme to which Elf plays homage.

Will Ferrell is brillant as Buddy, the human orphan who found a home and love at the North Pole with Papa Elf, one of Santa's employees. When Buddy decides to return to New York City to find his birth father, hilarity ensues.

Elf has wonderfully funny goofy moments, poignant moments, disgustingly funny moments -- like when he eats the already-been-chewed gum from a subway railing -- and a few serious moments.

Zooey Deschanel is great as Buddy's love interest, and James Caan and Mary Steenburgen are solid as Buddy's father and stepmother.

Elf is an intelligent, endearing comedy suitable for the entire family. Just make sure your little ones know that cotton balls aren't food, and that no matter what Buddy says, syrup is not a food group.

Movie Review: a truly hilarious, heartwarming holiday classic to be.......
Summary: 5 Stars

well, once again, my mail order company broke a street date, and my 'ELF' dvd arrived this past friday. i must tell you, in earnest, i totally laughed till i cried! will is great as the 6ft 3" elf. the role was made for him. the cinematography at santa's north pole, nyc during the bustling holiday season, i could really go on and on here i even liked it more than shrek 2! this dvd will become a holiday classic brought back every season, and never wear out it's welcome! get it for your loved ones-get it for yourself, as i did-you will not regret it at all. the supporting cast, the swift direction, the ac-3 sound, the choice of either wide or full screen on 2 packed dvds all add up to great laughs that will continue every time you view it. this and 'gone with the wind' the new 4 disc restored version, are my 2 very favorite and most cherished dvds of this rather sad war torn year! bravos and kudos to both dvd companies for warming not only mine, but i am sure many hearts this holiday season!

Movie Review: A Well Done Will Ferrell Holiday Comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

In this movie Will Ferrell plays Buddy, a man raised by elves. He eventually goes on to seek and find his birth father in New York City. He finds him, but at first his birth father (the gruff Walter Hobbs played by James Caan) thinks he is looney and it's some kind of joke. It is somewhat understandable when you take into account the clothes Buddy is wearing (his elf outfit). Very cute, but a bit out of place.

The real charm of the movie lies in Buddy's child-like innocence. It is hilarious to see him get into situations that probably would not be exceptional if someone more "normal" was involved. He is truly one of a kind and his personality shines throughout the entire movie. Additionally, he is something of a master decorator and snowball thrower, after getting lots of practice at the North Pole no doubt. This movie is really fun and funny and suitable for children as well. A perfect holiday movie if you want to laugh out loud. This may be Will Ferrell's best movie.
