Movie Reviews of Elektra (Full Screen Edition)Movie Review: ELEKTRA is damn good viewing Summary: 5 Stars
Yes I gave this 5 stars. Why? Because I love it. I went to the movies to have fun and Elektra delivered. Some fans of Frank Miller's comic character may agree with me. Other Miller fans will grow to love this in time. The same happened with Daredevil. It's hard for some to completely embrace the film version when you are so in love with the comics. It's understandable. Be that as it may, I doubt that many Miller fans will dislike this too much. There are moments of the master's vision clearly evident. Once again there seems to be somebody at Fox who understands Miller. It's just too bad these things have to be PG-13 but that's not to say that Elektra doesn't still rock. She does. The movie provides soul searching entertainment value and the character is still more complicated than many other comic book characters. Let me just point out that I'm a HUGE Frank Miller fan. I knew the movie would be different. That's the nature of the beast. And yet they didn't ruin the character at all. There are other sides to the character, and her world, that I'd have liked to have seen but I understand the nature of film and film watchers. Putting too much of a good thing in there can confuse people. Just look at the early reviews of Daredevil (a fine film and you should see the director's cut) as an example of many bad reviews based on ignorance of all the elements included. Elektra is a decent intro to the comic character that's made for film audiences and needs to be taken that way. It's a winner when accepted on it's own terms. Garner is wonderful. Stamp is a joy to behold. I've seen bad versions of beloved comics (I've yet to recover from Reb Brown's "Captain America")and this isn't one of them. Elektra provided what I wanted from a first film. I'd like to see a second. It's too bad that more of the mainstream public doesn't get it, but then again they often don't. I'm used to that. Those who love this movie really love it. Many are new to the character and it's a great chance to introduce them to Frank Miller's work. I've had fun thanks to this movie and I've met some great people who are just discovering the comics. There's a cult following to this film and those can be the best kind. I loved the film and I'll be adding Elektra to my DVD collection when it's available.
