Movie Reviews of Eddie and the Cruisers

Movie Review: One of those nostaglic gems that captures the times
Summary: 5 Stars

As the Cruisers walk into Tony Marts in Somers Point NJ and tell Tom Bereger to tell the manager, "The cruisers are here," I did a double take. From the age of 16, Tony Marts was my favorite hangout! (Yeah, the drinking age was 21, but I was a tall kid and no one asked for ID). So, you know I love this movie. I have probably watched this movie two dozen times and shown it to all of my friends and dates. To a person, they fell in love with in (and not surprisingly Eddie Lives the sequel, charming for its own music. Michael Pare captures the role and until one night that I watched the movie and then went out to see Beaver Brown (the real band) perform the same music, I was convinced he was singing and still don't get distracted by the lipsynching. Enjoy this wonderful movie, don't over analyze it and, well, if you spend your childhood on the South Jersey shore (Ocean City across from Somers Point) in the 1950s and 1960s as I did, it's real special.

Movie Review: Unheralded But Riveting Rock N Roll!
Summary: 5 Stars

Sure, the acting may not be Oscar quality, but who cares? The characters have been perfectly cast, with Michael Pare BELIEVABLE when he expertly lip synchs the fantastic music. With apologies to Mr. Springsteen, John Cafferty is, in his own right, a terrific artist, who measures up quite well to The Boss musically...as a matter of fact, just listen to the saxophone playing of Michael "Tunes"--the "big man" Clemons is great, but "Tunes" is, in my opinion, a tad better. You are in for a treat as you see and listen to the solid rock n roll songs in this movie as well as in the sequel (Eddie Lives). The supporting actors, Ellen Barkin, Tom Berenger, Joe Pantoliano, Matthew Laurance and especially the delicious Helen Schneider have been well cast, and fun to watch. The ending of the movie is exceptional..it will leave you wanting more.

Movie Review: A Movie That Echoes
Summary: 5 Stars

The great thing about this movie is just how believable it is. Some people I have shown it to actually thought that Eddie and Cruisers were a real band and that the movie was a docudrama. The characters have faults and failings and are believable, the plot is classic rock'n'roll mythology, the music is original (mostly) and great.

John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band provide the real voice of Eddie Wilson and these guys can really rock. This soundtrack rates in my top 50 favorite albums to this day.

"What I want is songs that echo" says Eddie, and oh and they do. Both score and movie are still fresh and relevent today.

The only Rock'n'Roll movie I like better is Eddie Lives! (out now) together they tell one of the best R'n'R myths ever. Get both NOW!

Movie Review: Eddie and the Cruisers II
Summary: 5 Stars

i just read the Editoral Review of this movie...and i could'nt disagree more !!! i think whoever reviewed this movie...was just a big fan of Bruce Springsteen..he said that John Cafferty sounded like he was trying to "sound" like that....could'nt be farther than the truth !! in my opinion, and it's just that...Bruce Springsteen could only hope to have such a rich sound and genuine love for music in general as obviously Mr Cafferty does...to bad we can't hear more from him rather than the way "over hyped" Mr Springsteen. As for the movie itself...cudos to Michael Pare for really making Eddie's character believable...and he's really really easy on the eyes....in this fans opinion....the reviewer is just jealous that he can't be as beautiful as Mr Pare....lol
