Movie Review: Eddie Murphy is still a very funny fellow-RIGHT!

By 1987,when this concert was taped,many of Eddie Murphy's fanbase were tickled by DELIRIOUS and also loved him in other Paramount properties like 48 HRS. and TRADING PLACES. Again,Murphy impersonates more popular entertainers,this time those being the late great Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby. My favorite part of this show was the Pryor/Cosby impersonations. Murphy claims,although they never met face-to-face,that Cosby chastised him on the phone for his highly profane comedy. Murphy has been a longtime fan of Cosby's and of course always watched Cosby's (in '87)#1 NBC sitcom THE COSBY SHOW. Pryor influenced Murphy and in fact Pryor himself followed in Cosby's footsteps in the sixties. Pryor and Murphy would later star together in another Paramount property,HARLEM NIGHTS. Between DELIRIOUS and this show,Murphy did more popular films like BEVERLY HILLS COP 1 and 2(also Paramount properties),THE GOLDEN CHILD(another Paramount property), and BEST DEFENSE with the late Dudley Moore(another Paramount property,wow!). I also loved Murphy's impersonations of non-celebrity foreigners("I see you on tellehvesion,you're the 'f--k yuh' mon,right?"). The Engelwood,New Jersey native's film career continues today,mostly in non-profane,family-oriented films. I watched this on cable in 1990 and, at 14 years old, I didn't get too offended at the majority of the stuff he joked about. (It's because of the over political correctness that has run amok in this country since the '80's that people are hypersensitive today. But, for the p.c. mindset about being careful not to offend anyone, people are more prejudiced today than they were in 1987.)
Catching this on cable tonight, I appreciate "Raw" now at nearly 30 more than I did as a teenager. I caught on to the more subtle stuff that slips you by as a teen and I found it more hilarious as a result.
In many ways, what Murphy said then still rings true nearly 20 years later (although I didn't like the anti-gay bit, that material wasn't nearly as mean-spirited as the majority of the stuff that has come out since then. Murphy's was tame by today's "standards").
The title says it all: This is Eddie Murphy "Raw." He's a lot more entertaining than alot of "comedians" today, that's for sure.
Essential video, for sure.

This is one the all time greatest Stand up performances ever. The Title "Raw" says it all. This is Eddie Murphy at his best, raw and uncut. From his jokes about TV shows and its characters to childhood, cheating, divorce, Italians, and his belligerant father, you'll be laughing from start to finish. Its been 17 years and I still enjoy it as much as the first time I saw it. I could go on for days about this film, but it's far better than words can describe. Seeing is definately believing. From the Richard Pryors and Red Foxxes to The Chris Rock's, Bernie Mac's and Dave Chapelle's ... "Eddie Murphy Raw" is the undisputed King of Comedy!!!Movie Review: LIKE TO TALK TO YOOOUUUUUUUUU!!!!"

This is ONE of the funniest stand-up acts you will ever see!! There's only one better than this, and that's Delirious! This man is a comic genius, and also one of the best impersonators I have ever seen before! His Richard Pryor impersonation is DEAD ON and one of the funniest parts! It's about time they released it on DVD and I can't wait to enjoy it again and again. If you're on the fence, trust me, this is well worth your time and effort and money! Eddie Murphy talking about life (friends, mariage, family, etc) in his own language... Really raw !
If you're not affraid of the F word and all other words (I mean : ALL of them), you will die laughing when watching Eddie "the f*** you man" Murphy. He doesn't care about anything (nore anyone) but making people laugh, and with his jokes and imitations, it worked for me !
Prior to the release of this DVD I had only acces to a VHS tape (now totally worn out) ; it was about time ! Sound is 7/10 and picture is 6/10.
