Movie Reviews of Eat Drink Man WomanMovie Review: Thoroughly enjoyable Summary: 5 Stars
The synopsis in the back of the dvd cover is completely wrong! This movie has been a long time favorite of mine. It's accurate portrayal of a somewhat traditional Chinese father raising independent children in a hyper modernizing Taiwanese society is as accurate as it gets.
Good acting all round and a realistic script help drive this movie. Better than some of Ang Lee's later works, this has been somewhat forgotten in light of his Hollywood action flicks. This movie reminds us that Ang Lee can do sensitive drama well too.
Movie Review: A Chinese banquet that leaves you completely satisfied Summary: 5 Stars
Ang Lee just can't seem to do anything wrong, and this movie is no exception. Food is a metaphor for a widowed man's love for the three daughters he's trying to hold close to traditional Asian ways as they stretch toward the allures of the West. A subtle, mouth-watering, poignant story of love. Order some of the best Chinese take-out your neighborhood has to offer, rent this DVD, and prepare to be majorly entertained. You may even shed a tear or two, and it won't be from the hot chili peppers in your Szechuan garlic green beans.
Movie Review: Eat & Drink in Three Languages Summary: 5 Stars
This enchanting movie, "Eat Drink Man Woman", is one for which you should break the rule of "No Subtitled Movies" See it first before watching its companion re-make "Tortilla Soup." Both will be ones you'll watch over and over. They have you covered if you like food movies. They've gotcha if you like more relationship plots than explosions. And you might also like to see old-timers Requel Welch and Hector Elizondo at work.
Highly Recommended We've watched both six times each.

Movie Review: very unusual piece of work Summary: 5 Stars
Ang Lee's movie "Eat Drink Man Woman" is a unique story of a Taiwanese chef, who is a widower, and his three daughters who are struggling to find love while discovering themselves and connecting to each other in different ways. We get all the ingredients of the film from the beginning in the conversation of Chu with his friend from the restaurant when he emphasizes the formula of life - eat, drink, man, woman.
It is worth of watching and discovering something new about the Chinese/Taiwanese culture.
Movie Review: Eat Drink Man Woman Summary: 5 Stars
Though the film is Taiwanese, the emotions and issues feel universal, as captured by "Wedding Banquet" director Ang Lee. Exploring the conflicts and disappointments that arise in the daughters' personal lives and how they get reflected in their father's old-world expectations, this film is as much about family as food, though the magnificent kitchen scenes may have you phoning for Chinese take-out even before the closing titles. "Eat Drink" will stimulate your taste buds, and all other relevant parts.
