Movie Reviews of Eat Drink Man WomanMovie Review: See this before going to China. Summary: 5 Stars
This is a movie I recommend for those actually going to China. It is an excellent portrayal of the delicate intricacies of familial relationships in China and does a superb job of showing contemporary culture and society in today's China. It's not the most stellar Ang Lee movie ever made. It does add to his cinematographic reputation. No doubt about it, this is a visually gorgeous movie. It's not perfect; there are some holes in the storyline and underdeveloped plots. However, it is an enjoyable and watchable film. It would appeal to those unfamiliar with Chinese cinema as well as to those well versed in the Big 5.
Movie Review: Yummy... Summary: 5 Stars
This is almost the best modern Chinese film that I have ever seen. The movie reflects a common issue in most of families. Why communicating with your family members seem so hard? No matter what's your culture background, or race, you will find the answer here. Marital arts might be cool, but food seems more real to me. The whole movie just makes me so hungry. The chinese delivery won't help your hunger at all this time, you definitly need go to some real fancy chinese restraunt to calm your aroused hunger. and by the way, this is really good movie. I actually am considering to buy this movie now. ^-^
Movie Review: Makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you hungry! Summary: 5 Stars
Be sure to get a big order of Chinese take-out when you watch this movie because the food is a character in and of itself and if it doesn't make you hungry, then your stomach is dead. I've had this movie on Laserdisc for years and it is one of my favorite foreign films! It's a very well done story about an aging Chef and his three daughters - each of them completely different. Each daughter tries to find their place in the world as the Father tries figure out where he belongs without his girls. I highly recommend it to anyone who has daughters, is a daughter, loves Chinese food, or simply likes good storytelling.
Movie Review: Little Hints Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best films I have seen in awhile. The story is about widowed master chef Chu and the relationships with his three daughters. The best part of the movie are scenes with him cooking intertwined with scenes of his daughters. You will see one of his daughters flirting with her friend's boyfriend and the next scene is of a frying pan on fire. When watching this movie, you must pay attention to the subtle clues that director Ang Lee gives the audience. They will lead to the surprising ending. This is a totally enjoyable movie.
Movie Review: Don't watch hungry Summary: 5 Stars
If you don't enjoy chinese cuisine, you will after watching this movie. This is a wonderful story of a father and his daughters learning to cope with life and each other. Much of the drama centers around the traditional Sunday dinner which, though the day or country may change, is a rather universal experience. The stories of the various family members are wonderful and the cooking scenes magical. This DVD also includes footage of the director discussing the movie which is fun.Next to Tempopo, this is the best movie about Asian cuisine.
