Movie Reviews of Eat Drink Man Woman

Movie Review: A celebration of excellence in an imperfect world ..
Summary: 5 Stars

This wonderfull, exquisite and delicous DVD excells on many fronts. First.. it's one of the first food movies where the food plays a central part of the film ... Second it's a super family story of the widdowed chef at one of China's largest and sumptous meets every Sunday to prepare the family dinner with his three young and beautifull daughters Third It's a story of tradgedy, stife and conflict as the one daughter least expected to shows up pregnant. Fourth ..the director Ang Lee is probably one of the best in the industry hands down ....

I would sing more praises of this film and Ang Lee's work but I think you get the picture ....

Movie Review: Very entertaining. Don't watch it with an empty stomach!
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie starts with an authentic look at Chinese cuisine (it hurts to be in Charleston, which has no good Chinese restaurants). Anyways, the plot revolves around Mr. Chu, who is a famous chef in the Grand Hotel of Taipei. Every week, he painstakingly prepares a sumptuous feast ranging from steamed dumplings, roasted pork shoulder to Peking duck for his 3 unmarried daughters who showed little appreciation to all the cullinary delights. Little by little we are introduced to the lives of his three daughters and the men they meet. Eventually, all three of them found what they were looking for in life, and so did master chef Chu in a rather surprising twist. Bon apetite!

Movie Review: Good drama
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm originally from Taiwan, and I can say that this film captures genuinly the father-child and teacher-student relationship over there. There might be even times viewers from the Western countries wonder why they act this way. But that's the cultural difference.

The intensity and pace of the film is regulated perfectly. The story is unconventional, so it's not your average film, whose story can be explained in a few lines. So whether you're interested in the culture, or you just want a good drama about family values, working relationships, or expectations from family members on eather other, this is a good film to watch. One of Ang Lee's best film.

Movie Review: Perfect movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the first (and only at this point) Ang Lee movie and I plan to go and rent evrything else of his I can.
I started watching this movie and started to fear that there's be too many characters who have similar names and look alike at first glance, but within minutes, I realized it was not a problem and I felt like I knew every character and actually cared about them- something I rarely do with any film.
Plenty of people have went on and on about this film, so I'll make it short and say this is quite simply a perfect movie that actually made me clap at one point and near tear at the end- which I'll deny everywhere else but here.

Movie Review: Eat Drink Man Woman has humor, wisdom, and grace.
Summary: 5 Stars

Eat Drink Man Woman is full of humor, wisdom, and grace. I love to watch this film. I always suggest that you eat a full meal before you watch this motion picture. The savory dishes created by the father who is a chef in a major hotel in Taipei, Taiwan makes your mouth water and your glands salivate. I want to be in this film and enjoy a meal with the master chef. You will laugh and notice the wisdom of this wonderful motion picture. I only wonder what it would be like if I understood Mandarin. I get a lot of meaning with the subtitles. I am used to subtitles, however, I bet their were a few nuances that I missed.
