Movie Reviews of DutchMovie Review: A Tasty Little Surprise Summary: 5 Stars
A friend of mine loaned me his VHS copy of this movie a couple years ago and I'd never even heard of it. I was a little skeptical at first, but I trusted his judgment based on previous referrals and so I watched it.
The storyline is very engaging and for anyone who is dealing with 'uppity' teenagers full of attitude, this one will really hit home.
This film is pretty excellent across the board. It's certainly the best work I've ever seen Ed O'Neill do and that's for sure. He just shines in his role here. The movie is full of surprises so I'll not say anymore about the details, but the writing, acting and directing here are top notch as far as humor goes.
NOTE: There are several lines of dialogue that you will make part of your permanent vocabulary after watching this film similar to the way you adopted lines out of Caddyshack into your everyday world.
To give you just a tiny taste of what's waiting for you, Ed's character steps out of a truck stop restaurant after a hearty breakfast and belches rather loudly prompting the line, "Ahhhhh... nothing burps like bacon!"
You've been warned.
Movie Review: Underrated movie - one for the collection Summary: 5 Stars
There are so few 'Thanksgiving movies' available. This is one that was overlooked in the theaters. The critics bad mouthed it. It did not fair well at the box office overall. The problem is - all the bad press wasn't deserved.
The movie is funny. Ed O-Neill is not Al Bundy in this movie. He is still something of a bumbler, but he is definitely a different character overall. Ethan Randall, in one of his earliest appearances, is convincing as the rich brat that is ticked off at the world. Put the two of them together - you get 'Dutch'.
As with most John Hughes movies of the era, it has a touchy ending, but it plays in well with the story. For the low price of the movie, you can't go wrong. You will end up with a great Thanksgiving themed movie that deserves to be in your holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas) movie collection.
Movie Review: Back Down To Earth! Summary: 5 Stars
Fantastic film ... upper class is simply no match for working class humour. Absolutely superb film... pity the price is so expensive. Still if you want to own a film that you will watch again and again then this has all the attributes that make a really entertaining film for all the family to enjoy. Guy gets involved with divorce from the upper class whose son studies at boarding school... unfortunately the son has his dads attitude where eveyone and everything is below him. The working class guy brings him home to celebrate thanksgiving... the son falls to earth and accepts life can be fun after all on the working class level... this is only the start of this very funny film.
Movie Review: Ed O'Niel at his best! Summary: 5 Stars
Picking your girlfriend's kid up and bringing him home for the holidays should be a piece of cake. You would think so anyway. But when the kid is a resentful piece of trash who blames his mother for her and his father's divorce, it becomes anything but tranquil.
Hands full of trouble, Dutch does his best to become friends but the boy makes it all but impossible. If it wasn't for a series of misfortunes(most of which happen due to the kids actions) the boy wouldn't learn the truth behind his parent's divorce.
The last scene of the movie is killer. I'll not spoil it, but it's funny and reminds me a lot of Al Bundy.
Movie Review: A classic John Hughes holiday gem that should have gotten the recognition it deserved Summary: 5 Stars
I was finally introduced to this film through a friend. I have seen the majority of all the popular John Hughes productions but this one. This film came out around the same time that Home Alone did but as it has been seen Dutch was overshadowed. Dutch has a great cast. Both Ed O'Neil and Ethan (Randall) Embry carry the movie very well. This movie is great as both an everyday John Hughes film but at the same time is great to watch during the holidays. Get this movie now!
