For many years I never owned a Dusty album let alone a DVD now I have many such treasures and this DVD is among the best.This DVD shows the power of the little lady known to her friends as Mary and to the world at large as Dusty.
Yes she was a troubled person but as her friends say in their interviews with this DVD it was more to do with her problems with reconciling her deep religious upbringing and her person lifestyle.She was indeed a tragic woman in many respects but that is not the woman you see in this DVD.here is the reason she was and is so greatly loved and enjoyed.Here is the woman who lived to sing and to give everyone her special touch....we all thought she sang to us alone.This was her gift her unique ability,rare then even rarer now.
This wonderful collection of her many hits in a melange of groupings allows those unfimiliar with her talent a chance to hear snippets of her work,each individually presented if truncated in there full glowing originality.
Like many of her friends Going Back remains my all time favourite of her songs as it is the Dusty/Mary girl hidden within the brilliance of this woman who gave the world some of its favourite songs.
The powerful Count to ten shows the strength of the vocal prowess that belonged to her vocal gymnasitics ,whereas others show the whispered pain of her heart Quiet Please.Far from being past her prime Dusty never seemed to age musically she was able to render any music into a scourching preformance no matter who wrote it.I have one of her last pieces where she sang with the Petshop boys and Yes I still love her voice and her interpretation.
Interpretation and vocal resonance are reason enough to listen to Dusty,But what captures you here is her face,her expressiveness and the way she draws the audience into her heart.
Thank you Dusty for the legacy you have given the world of music .

Summary of Dusty Springfield: Live at the Royal Albert Hall
Dusty Springfield is Britain's greatest ever pop diva and the possessor of one of the finest and most soulful voices of all time. She dominated both the UK and US charts throughout the sixties with a string of hit singles that have stood the test of time as true classics. Originally a member of the folk trio The Springfields, from whom she took her stage name, she became a solo artist in 1963 after being exposed to the magic of Motown whilst playing in America and became probably the finest ever white soul singer. Diagnosed with breast cancer in the mid-nineties she died in 1999 at the age of just 59.This concert, recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in 1979 in the presence of HRH Princess Margaret, captures Dusty at the height of her career. The show is packed with hits (including 9 UK top 10 singles), which are delivered with all the glitz and panache that were Dusty's trademark and have made her a major gay icon as well as beloved of music fans everywhere.
As a bonus feature there is an extensive interview with Dusty's long time manager, her friends and one of the backing singers from the Albert Hall show.
All of the existing visual footage from the concert has been used on this DVD, however there are additional tracks that exist as audio only and these are included on the companion CD release which is being simultaneously released on Eagle Records (ER 20081-2).
