Movie Reviews of Dune (Extended Edition)

Movie Review: "The One Who Bridges Time And Space" ~ Two Versions Are Better Than One
Summary: 5 Stars

Judging from the long list of previous reviews there is certainly a wide range of opinions, both good and bad, concerning this release of the theatrical and extended versions of 'Dune.'

Personally, I'm delighted all the legal hassles have finally been resolved and the multitude of Dune fans can now enjoy this film whenever they want. Personally I enjoy the original theatrical version much more than the extended, but I also like to have the extra footage, being the obsessive completist that I am.

Just enjoy it, the DVD containing the theatrical version has been OOP for some time now and now we have it available again along with the extended version in widescreen.

REJOICE!!

Movie Review: Give the Harkonnen a blade
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a very stirring movie. Paul triumphs and avenges his fathers death. It's a pretty simple plot but the movie pulls me in every time.

It had been awhile since I'd seen the extended television version and after my recent viewing I'd have to agree with Lynch that it is inferior. I guess more is not always better.

I do have one quibble with the theatrical version. Why in heavans name did Lynch cut the Thufir Hawat death scene. It is a powerful moving scene even without a score.

Like other reviewer have written, I hope someday that Lynch realizes what an amazing piece of art he crafted. How can he not like this movie.

Movie Review: SE better than to theatrical version
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been awaiting the SE for years. This is a far better version than the original theater release. I won't even watch it again. As a result I have only been able to watch Dune on VHS that was recorded from WGN when it first premered.

As to the question of wide screen or full screen, remember that this movie was shot in wide screen. That included the deleted scenes that were later reinserted for the SE and croped for TV.

I will be buying 2 copies of this DVD. One for me and the other for my 16 year old daughter. She loves the film and has read every Dune book written. That's both fater and sons' works.

Movie Review: The Spice Must Flow
Summary: 5 Stars

Dune DVD

Dune is based on Frank Herbert's Science Fiction Classic by that name. Dune was an allegory for the Arab Oil embargo. If you substitute the House of Saud for the House Harkonnen you get a pretty good fit.

Anyhow Dune revolves around the flow of "Spice". It is full of action and evil villains. It is a movie that you'll want to watch over and over again. It is too bad that Hollywood hasn't seen fit to make a sequel or two which follow Herbert's books.

Highly recommended for fans of Science Fiction and Frank Herbert.

Movie Review: Classic Dune finally on disk!
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally I have my own high-quality copy of the original DUNE full-length edition! For too long have I watched my recorded-off-the-tv tape, chopped up with commercials. A great story, reasonably well-acted, faithful to the original novel by Frank Herbert, with all the cheesy special effects. They even left in most of the errors from the first version! The Navigator attendant tripping as they rolled in the chamber was hilarious! Now I can proudly inflict this movie on my non-sci-fi friends without embarrassment, in glorious widescreen and without commercial interruption!
