Movie Review: Dune HD DVD - A bit disappointing
Summary: 3 Stars

First off, I am one of those who liked the movie. However, now that I have the HD DVD in hand, I find that I am one who likes the longer version better than the theatrical release.

As far as the HD DVD goes, I was a bit disappointed. Not as good of a transfer as I'd hoped.

Still glad I have it in my collection, but I'd really like the longer version with a better HD transfer.

I remember watching Dune when I was a kid, and I recently read the book. Overall I wish they had offered a version where they placed the deleted scenes back in because the movie would have made a lot more sense. overall the HD looks pretty good for the desert scenes but you can really see how far we have come for digital effects.

I enjoyed the novel Dune, and I enjoy David Lynch as a director, but this movie is pretty terrible. It was almost a literal adaptation of plot points in the novel, right down to internal monologue being dubbed over as we hear the characters thinking. Unfortunately it's not bad enough to be funny.
