Movie Reviews of Dumb and Dumber

Movie Review: The greatest story ever told
Summary: 5 Stars

Dumb and Dumber cannot be compared to the other movies that were produced in its day. It tends to exist on an elevated plane altogether unfamiliar to your average film. What may seem as a story about two terribly unintelligent guys travelling from Providence to Aspen, is actually much more than that. Lloyd CHRISTmas clearly represents some sort of a savior-like figure whose self-sacrifice in regard to his love for another serve to bring peace and happiness, as well as redemption, to those immediately around him. At the same time, however, Lloyd's disciple Harry has set out to betray his friend and teacher so that he may satisfy his sinful needs. Thirty pieces of silver don't buy much in the 90's so Harry opts for stealing Lloyd's woman instead. Regardless, the story ends and all is well. This is where the film is truly lacking. Where's the sacrifice? Where are the weeping women? Oh, well, nothing's perfect. The obvious Christian allegory aside, Dumb and Dumber is quite possibly one of the funniest films ever produced as it continually makes light of the limited intellects with which Lloyd and Harry operate. For example, they abandon their dream of a worm store called "I got worms" (parasites, always funny) in favor of travelling to Aspen, "where the beer flows like wine, where beautiful women instintctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano . . ." If that's not comedic genius I don't know what is. So comic, and yet so deep at the same time.

Movie Review: Harry: you sold my dead bird to a blind kid?!"
Summary: 5 Stars

Dumb and Dumber is one of those great comedies that now adays don't come around so often. The story is about limo driver Lloyd Christmas, and his friend Harry. One day, Lloyd picks up Mary, who he considers to be an angel. He drops her off at the airport, but he sees that Mary has dropped one of her suit cases, so he runs in and grabs it, but is unable to catch Mary before she boards the plane. Lloyd goes back to his apartment, and realizes that he must return the package to Mary, who Lloyd found out is going to Aspen. However, Lloyd doesn't know that the suit case is full of money, and was left for a ransom. So, Harry and Lloyd embark on a cross country road trip from Rhode Island to Colorado. Along the way, they trick some fellow named Sea Bass, accidentally kill one of the kidnappers, and in perhaps the funniest scene in the movie, Lloyd dreams about Mary. By the time they reach Aspen, they discover that the briefcase is filled with money, and live high class in Aspen. During their stay, they go to a banquet to save snow owls, in which Harry unwillingly gets a date with Mary. Harry lies to Lloyd and tells him that Mary will meet him in a bar the following morning. When Mary doesn't arrive, Lloyd gets suspicious, and discovers that Mary is on a date with Harry, and that discovery ushers in one of the greatest scenes in movie history. If I could, I would give this movie six stars, but I can't so see this movie the second you finish reading this review, believe me, you will not regret it.

Movie Review: Absolutely the best movie of all time!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, I love Jim Carey. I remember him from the days he was in the Fox comedy sketch comedy show "In Living Color." I'm glad to see his comic genius flourish to the mainstream movie audience. Dumb & Dumber is by far his best comedy yet and is definitely #1 on my list of all-time favorite movies. The "dumb" nature of this movie allows Carey (Lloyd) to indulge in his personalized crazy humor. Giving an equally great performance was Jeff Daniels (Harry). These two were made for each other! Lloyd Christmas, a limo driver, and Harry Dunn, a dog breeder/groomer drive to Aspen, California errr I mean Colorado to deliver a lost briefcase owned by the lovely Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly). However, the briefcase was not lost at all. Instead, it was meant to be a ransom payoff in return for Mary's husband who was apparently kidnapped. A roadtrip was just the perfect adventure for these two tweedle dumb's as they encounter and confuse many people with their innocent and childish stupidity. Not only is this movie chalk full of fart and poop jokes (and it is) but they are also tasteful fart & poop jokes! Only Jim Carey could pull off the wickedly funny facial expressions required to show his relief from whizzing into a beer bottle while driving in Harry's sheepdog van. I'm sure everyone has seen this movie already as it is an intergral part of American culture! And if not, what are you waiting for???

Movie Review: Lloyd and Harry: 2 of the Stupidest People Alive!
Summary: 5 Stars

Hey, is today a no-brainer for you? Well, for Harry and Lloyd, EVERY day is a no brainer! This hilarious 1994 comedy is about 2 of the STUPIDEST people alive! Lloyd (Jim Carrey, The Mask) drives a woman named Mary (Lauren Holly, Any Given Sunday),who is going to Aspen (which Lloyd thinks is a warm place in California), to the airport in Providence, and she leaves a briefcase full of money for ransom to get back her kidnapped husband, but Lloyd thinks she forgot it. So, just before the 2 kidnappers, a girl and a guy, can pick it up, Lloyd comes running by, grabs it, and tries to get to the plane, but too late. It has already left, and he falls out onto the runway. So he goes home and tells his friend Harry (Jeff Daniels, 101 Dalmatians) about what happened, and so they drive to Aspen with the briefcase, in a van that looks like a dog, with lots of laughs along the way! When they are about 23 miles from Aspen, Lloyd makes a wrong turn and goes to Nebraska. Harry gets mad, and says they are very lost because he drove 1/6 of the country the wrong way, and that they don't have enough $$ to get to Aspen, to get home, to eat, or to SLEEP!! They finally make it, with lots more laughs! This movie was directed by the Farelly Brothers (Shallow Hal, There's Something About Mary) and is very funny. If you haven't seen it or have and want to again, get it! It's Real KOOL!

Movie Review: Hilariously funny comedy classic!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was absolutely appalled at how horrible the prequel "When Harry Met Lloyd" was when released in 2003 so I went back to the original from 1994 and let me tell you, it is still a really funny and witful comedy classic.

Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey are an amazing team starring as two really low-wealth bums in the run-down slums of the east coast rustbelt and when Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) is a taxi driver at the airport, an attractive woman (Lauren Holly) accidentally leaves behind an important suitcase with important material and now Harry along with his longtime dim-witted friend Harry Dunn try to compete to win her heart over and go all the way to Aspen, Colorado to return the suitcase to her but they are unaware that they are being persued by a criminal couple involved in a criminal crime ring.

This movie is just plain funny and while certainly not a masterpiece by any means, it is nonetheless a memorable movie by both of the lead actors and Daniels and Carrey are a wonderful comedy duo team and a pity taht Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen could not take notice of how well the former two did on this original movie.

This is a movie that warrants taking off the thinking cap for a while and get out the soda and popcorn and share a laugh with your friends.
